Yet again with people leaving unlocked cars with valuables? It takes a second to lock your car. Why would you set yourself up for someone to enter your car and steal your belongings?

This has been going on for a year! They have been making there way down the streets in Beachwood but we haven't seen anything in the papers!

sometimes locking the car with objects in it leads to broken windows and the objects taken,It is always better to remove anything of value from your can locking just may be worse for you

Funny that it becomes someone else's fault....really!???How about---you should be able to leave anything you want in your car that's parked in your driveway WITH YOUR DOOR UNLOCKED and not have it broken into?????

I agree...why is it the victim's fault? Ye, perhaps you should remember to lock your car, but these trolls are wrong thinking they can steal! Some people just may simply forget because they just are not used to being robbed in their own homes. I hope they catch these idiots. Oh, I am sure they will...you can only hide for so long before you get caught!

This economy has brought out the worst in people. Broke people are going to extreme measures to obtain money. Neighborhood watches should be put in place! Patents should know the whereabouts of their teens. Maybe a curfew for 17 and under after a certain time. Then, the burden on police would be lighter. We citizens need to step up.

When CBs became popular in the 70's, some towns up north had neighborhood patrols...tipping off cops to mischief...chasing down thugs with a flashlight is dangerous, better to alert police at first sighting..."crime in progress".

I have to wonder what kind of homes they come from!! Obviously no values of respect of others or even themselves. Just despicable.

It is more likely the perpatrators are not desperate people suffering from the economy, but most likely teens or young adults who are resorting to criminal behavior to support a drug addiction. The fact that there may be two individuals involved further indicates as much.

I lectured my ex endlessly about not locking his car since I met him and especially since I've started reading the patch which by the way if u dont u may not be aware of the thefts and know to lock your car. While I always have as do my parents many people were raised not bothering particularly on their own property. Anyway my ex finally listened and was rewarded by a smashed to bits window and another door being attempted to pry open. I have Gauchers Disease so tho I'm prepared to defend myself I wasn't about to chase the thief but one day someone will catch these dudes in the act who isn't quite so breakable and with all the neighborhood watches forming that day is coming. Also I called 911 immediately and they were able to follow foot tracks as it had snowed a bit and say they had parked at bottom of street and then walked down the block so whoever it was drives around and isn't just a teen on foot.

Where are the parents? Why are 17 year olds out!. Yes i know they are boys and 17 but what happened to just hanging out with girls. Why go stealing.

More like a kid who NEVER left or came back to live with Mom & Dad...and they are tired of GIVING him money and have cut him off.....so they do what they have to ..short of finding work ( hiring is a problem ) by picking up leaves for hire, cleaning gutters. Power washing the north side of homes where mold builds up or washing garbage cans !!!! Buy a stencil set and charge a couple of bucks to put home owners house numbers on there curb for there safety....Do something but stealing from your neighbors and friends....

Theft of petty cash and ipods in cars is not a new occurance. We have been here in North TR since 2007. My husband is a FR local, I am fr up north. I recall the first week I was here having my car turned upside down. Not much was taken just $ from my change compartment. I mistakenly left my car door open. Definitely not something I would ever do. I am conditioned to lock everything up. Funny point is the attractive part of my neighborhood was that it was safe. I made a point of saying that this NEVER happened when I lived in NY. My hubby said it was just kids looking for beer money. So with that said I don't think this scam is due to the economy

drugs!! These thugs will stop at nothing to get their daily fix. As the Police Chief said on Thursday night, we will be seeing a surge of more violent crimes. This is due to the fact that there is now a nation-wide registry for any prescription class 1 drug written by physicians This makes it more difficult to go from doctor to doctor for prescription narcotics. Our pharmacies are especially at risk since they will be the ones refusing to fill the prescriptions. Get ready for this one!

I am always amazed at how these stories say very little but the people make all kinds of assumptions in the comments. They are not sure of the age they said they believe the male was about 17. They don't know who it is yet. The parents are not necessarily bad. Did your parents follow you every second when you were 17? Didn't you ever know a kid that sneaks out after parents went to bed or was staying at a friends and sneaks out?And why does every one on here just assume drugs have to do with everything a kid does. Did you ever think it could be a dare or that they wanted an iPod and didn't have the money and saw an open door one day and grabbed it and decided that was really easy so decided to keep doing it? Or maybe they are just smart ass kids.It could be a million scenarios.Why don't we just wait til they get busted and see what the actual story is. At this point it is all guessing. You could all write a book with your imaginations.

OK...In a real world, anyone should be able to leave their windows and doors open or unlocked without becoming a victim of crime. We all should be able to leave anything, anywhere with out the fear of theft. I get that!!!I really do. But, if you want to live in that world, be prepared to become a victim of something. Some writers commented that the victim should not be called an idiot. I disagree....If you don't protect yourself and your things that you hold dear{ unlocked cars and homes...money gift cards or cash in sight, ipods, wallets and keys etc.} "You are an idiot" Wake up America and "Get it" Punish the law breakers, but, be accountable for you own actions or the lack there of. Thats all.
