Armed Robber Hits Wawa Service Station
Robbery is the third of a service station in Toms River this week
Toms River police are investigating the third armed robbery of a service station in a week in the township.
This robbery occurred at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Wawa located at the corner of Route 70 and Massachusetts Avenue, Chief Michael Mastronardy said.
A male about 20 years old, 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, dressed in a black puffy coat, black pants and a black ski mask armed with a box cutter demanded cash from a male gas attendant, Mastronardy said. After getting about $40 from the attendant, witnesses said, the suspect got into an older dark color Toyota pickup truck with a dark color bed cover and fled the station.
There were no injuries in the robbery. Officer Pascal Gambardella, Sergeant Ralph Stocco and Detective James Magovern are investigating.
While this is the third time in a week that a service station has been robbed, the suspect in the Wawa case is different. Police noted the suspects in the other two robberies -- on Nov. 5, at the Holiday City Service Center, and on Nov. 10, at the Shell station -- were described as being 5-foot-6 with a medium build and dressed in a sweatshirt and jeans or black pants.
An earlier story said the suspects in all three robberies appeared to be similar; that is not the case.
Anyone with information in any of the cases may call Toms River police at 732-349-0150.

How does the description match when the 1st robbery the guy was 5'6, 2nd robbery 5'9 now he's 6'4?

...also, the others fled on foot and this guy had a Toyota pickup. Don't these gas stations have surveillance cameras?

People aren't always very good at judging a person's height & weight; especially in situations whereas they've been subjected to extreme stress from being held up while having either a gun or knife waved at them! The perpetrator's method of showing a knife or box cutter to the attendants in all 3 cases is what makes these crimes appear to all be related to the same person, and It's also quite possible that the thief simply had his vehicle hidden nearby & out of sight during the first two robberies when he fled on foot. Hopefully, he'll be caught before he robs again or hurts or kills someone!

Not a laughing matter but makes me think of comedy skits the suspect was a tall, short guy, kinda skinny and fat with blonde dark hair, I most likely would be horrible at description, especially in dark dressed in black. But I wondered same thing there has to be footage of these robberies. If they have a good picture they should make it public, also surprises me that in this day and age how no one got video on cell, time of robberies suggests there were customers

I never claimed to be a sherlock holmes but the article was corrected I'm only interested in facts, Think it's time for the police to maybe put some cops on undercover duty as attendants at stations on 37 maybe then they can get these wackos off the streets before we read about "gas station attendant killed for 20 bucks"

I agree with you Bud; as far as I'm concerned, using undercover cops to catch these gas station robbers certainly takes priority over using undercover cops in crosswalks!

Absolutely Gino because sadly most these stories end in some sort of violence it's only a matter of time, But I'm still thankful that these robberies did not end with someone dead or seriously hurt.

Karen Wall, is there a way in your website article editor to link to the other two stories/articles mentioned in the article you wrote so people who maybe haven't had time to look at the site for a few days don't have to go looking?
Of course, there is this one you wrote, the Shell Station one. Is the third one that is being called a gas station the Auto Shop Robbery one? Or is there another that was a gas station that I missed?
Thanks.

I've added the links. Still learning some things about this system.

Thanks Karen. That really helps, I never would have thought the auto body shop was a gas station since they don't name it in the story at all until you linked it here.
Thanks, much appreciated.
BTW: No worries. You will learn the system in no time at this rate! ;-)

What was the Wawa suspect's race? Wouldn't that be an important identifying trait? If I remember correctly they did say the guy who hit the Rt 37 stations was caucasian... didn't they? I know he had a ski mask on but was he wearing gloves too??

The police report did not give a race.

It's not PC to give the race of any suspects.........even if it's important. And how do we know it was a male? ;)

Kim: The suspects race DOES matter...so does his/her height, weight, gender, and any other characteristics (a limp, etc.) that can help in his/her apprehension. Not knowing the suspects race is one thing, deliberately withholding it in the name of political correctness is another. Did it ever occur to you that the next time you pull in for gas, YOU might spot the suspect?

That's the FIRST thing that came to mind when I finished reading this article (but not all the comments), what is the suspect's race?

Since they claim that this is the same suspect as the other two robberies and that suspect was white, I would kind of guess that this one was white also!!!!

No one could tell the race because the thief was racing out of there ! YUK ! YUK!

BB; I was just bust in you , good observation that three different heights were given and it's probably the same person..and all white guys look the same ( tongue in cheek ) anyway...or give them a pager type alarm system. We had them in a station on rt 37 , just hit the button and the cops are there in seconds...hopefully he will be apprehended before he hurts someone...Stay alert when anywhere today..yes at the mall in the parking lot...always !!!!

The suspect was tan skinned with brown eyes and dark brown eyebrows. I would say either a caucasian Italian male or some sort of Hispanic male

Folks, the police include the race of suspects when they feel they have reliable information about it. It's not about political correctness. I've seen plenty of police reports that give the race of the suspects. Tom, RJN, it sounds like you were there. Did you talk to the police? If not, you should.

I mereley was repeating what i heard on th scan @ tht time-and since this info actully CAME from the police,,,i woulndnt think it was worth telling them a faq tht they allready knew @ the time it happened-if you want to hear REAL STUFF- go to radio shack-and get a scanner-alota times yu will end up hearing staff right when it happens-and it helps to get the facts straight

I will disagree with you there. Scanner reports on Saturday said six people were hurt in the accident at routes 166 and 37. That information turned out to be incorrect as just one person was taken to the hospital.
