As New Animal Shelter Progresses, Your Thoughts

Town Council moves closer to new animal shelter on Oak Avenue next to police headquarters

Tonight's Town Council meeting will take a big step forward in building a new animal shelter for Toms River.

On the agenda is the awarding of a bid for the project, $6.49 million bid. That amount will also expand police headquarters and a cramped municipal court, which are all on the same site as the new animal shelter will be.

All three projects — police renovation, court expansion, and new animal shelter — have been discussed over the years, but now that the projects are closer to breaking ground, let's hear your thoughts.

Are you glad to see some long-discussed projects advancing or do you feel otherwise?

it is totally a disgrace in toms river...we have money for every sport location...except for this animal shelter, which has been way to long.....volunteers, could of did this job years ago..SHAME ON YOU MAYOR KELAHER AND YOUR POSSE COUNCIL..The only reason they are going to build the shelter finally is because, they are doing the renovations to the police station, and of course the municipal court..

Looking forward to the long awaited animal shelter. Toms River has grown as we all know and along with that so have many dogs and cats. I will be happy to see a nice new place for our furry friends.

Amazing!!!! Why can't projects stand alone on their own merit? Why does the Animal Shelter have to be bundled in with the Police Headquarters and Court project. The Shelter has been pending for years and now with it being bundled into a massive project you know where the project cuts or movement of funds for the shelter will go. The shelter will be short changed again for sure, mark my words.

Maybe some of Ocean County's homeless HUMANS can sleep on the front steps of the nice new animal shelter.

Its about time this animal shelter was supposed to have been built already. Yes it is needed. As is a facility to help the homeless. A new police station and court house not.
