BOE Will Choose from Eight Attorneys at Special Tuesday Meeting
Executive session begins at 5:30 p.m.; public session expected to begin at 8 p.m.
Toms River's Board of Education is expected to conduct interviews and discuss which one of eight law firms will represent the board in 2013 during a special meeting Tuesday.
After some controversy, members did not appoint a board attorney or labor attorney at their Jan. 3 reorganization meeting. Members agreed to hold interviews with those in consideration for the positions, which will take place beginning in a 5:30 p.m. executive session at High School North.
According to the district, the eight firms that submitted to be considered for the board attorney position are:
- Campbell and Pruchnik
- Carlucio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle and Sacks
- Corrigan Law Firm
- Gilmore and Monahan
- Kenney, Gross, Kovats and Parton
- Montenegro, Thompson, Montenegro and Genz
- Schenck, Price, Smith and King
- Schwartz, Simon, Edelstein and Celso.
The board also will consider seven firms for its labor and employment attorney:
- Cleary, Giacobbe, Alfieri and Jacobs
- Corrigan Law Firm
- Kenney, Gross, Kovats and Parton
- Leitner, Tort, DeFazio, Leitner and Brause
- Montenegro, Thompson, Montenegro and Genz
- Schenck, Price, Smith and King
- Schwartz, Simon, Edelstein and Celso.
The executive session is expected to continue until about 8 p.m. as the board conducts "interviews and deliberations regarding professional contracts and other business," the meeting announcement states.
Formal action, including the appointments, would take place in the public session after the executive session has concluded. Members are also expected to decide whether the district should use a pool of engineers or one firm exclusively.

Oh no...I hope none of these firms are located in, or have employees who reside in Toms River! Wouldn't that present conflicts? We wouldn't want to be represented by a parent, or spouse of a child or adult in the TRRS system! Right JD?

Actually, if any of these law firms represented any of the board members individually, they can't vote on the matter nor can they interview.
There is an School Ethics Advisory discussing that... or it comes under Attorney Ethics or both.
Also, Gearity nor Baxter can participate in interviews or vote on the matter due to conflict since they have family members employeed by TRRS.

btw Buffoon...
That is a question you can ask before the vote....
if any of these law firms represented any board member in any matter. It could even be a land transaction, etc... if so, who and what firm.
Also, do any of these firms have a relationship, etc with Giovine's dad... he is a retired Judge I believe.

My question... why weren't the law firms listed on the attachments?
All the other professionals were listed.

Gilmore and Monahan were definetly in the know about Rat Taco and his crew of no goods. If this is not enough to NOT elect them I don't know what is !!!!! There should be a law enforced that none of these law firms have any relatives in the TR Board of Education or Town Council. Toms River is full of NEPOTISM and it needs to end now.

I didn't have questions...
I think the Labor attorney appointment is more important. Especially with all the contracts coming up and all the grievances that will soon be filed for all the teachers that will get fired and/or denied tenure... not to mention administrators.

I hope Gearity, Baxter and Jedziniak now feel warm and cozy that they got to interview the candidates. Something the Ritacco crew never did nor would allow to be done.
Gilmore was always appointed... what a surprise.
