Copper Wire Nabbed From Fenced-In JCP&L Substation

$400 in copper wire taken at Coolidge and Adams avenues, police said

continues to be a hot commodity for thieves targeting its use in wires and pipes, police said, with an incident of theft from a utility substation last week.

Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the latest incident of copper theft was at the fenced-in JCP&L substation, Adams and Coolidge avenues in the East Dover section of town.

The suspect, or suspects, entered the fenced in area and took approximately $400 worth of copper wire, police said.

Mastronardy said that the incident of theft occurred “sometime during the last week.”

However the copper is spray painted yellow, as an identifying mark, said the police chief. The utility company sprays its wire to as a crime prevention measure and to aid in an investigation.
