First Snow of 2012 in Toms River

Just a dusting for Ocean County

When was the first snow of the 2011-2012 winter for Toms River?

Early morning, Jan. 5.

Toms River and other parts of Ocean County saw its first snowflakes of the season around 1 a.m. this morning, with some roads just dusted over.

Chances are the snow will have melted by the time you awake but the National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook and had predicted scattered flurries with a low around 27 degrees.

This time last year Ocean County was blanketed with several feet of snow. The township roads remained slick, and residents were stranded as it took days to dig out. The 2011-2012 winter had a more than $1.25 million price tag for snow removal.

The first snow of this season is no comparison, but are you excited to see the first flakes?

Actually, it was early morning on January 5th, not the 4th.

Now it feels like Christmas should be coming with this cold weathet and snow flurries.

A group of TR area men ("the old boys of summer") will play softball tomorrow and Sat. -- as usual. More fun than a gym membership!

Love it! Wish it was a lot more, so I'm still waiting for The Big One...

Good then you can come and shovel for the rest of us when the big one comes. I had enough the last few years to last a lifetime.

LOL Sorry, I'm kept pretty busy shoveling my own walk and driveway - along with my husband. I don't do nearly as much as my husband does, but I help and I don't mind it.
We're both retired, so there's no rush although we get started as soon as we can if it starts snowing during waking hours... We prepare well ahead of time and don't panic when it happens. :-)

It didn't this morning. I changed it. Happy 5th of January, everyone.
