Major roadways impacted by continued floodwaters in Toms River

Boats floated onto Fischer Boulevard.

Many major roads in Toms River continued to flood or create traffic issues due to Hurricane Sandy.

A summary of conditions reported on Tuesday, Oct. 30:

Fischer Boulevard near Windsor Avenue, and Windsor to Coolidge, remained closed due to flooding and downed trees this afternoon. East Dover Fire Company evacuated its operation and moved personnel to Toms River High School East.

Fischer Boulevard is also impassable between Pumpshire Road and Water's Edge. The roadway had flooded and boats are stuck on the roadway.

Multiple traffic lights are out along Route 37, particularly east of Hooper Avenue. Police are directing traffic at Route 37 and Vaughn/West End avenue. At other intersections, traffic cones are attempting to prevent north-south traffic from crossing Route 37.

Route 37 at Fischer Boulevard and over the Mathis Bridge is closed.

On Hooper Avenue, there is flooding in Silverton after the McDonald's and to Shore Boulevard. Cars who aren't attempting to drive through the water are driving over the dirt median to make a U-Turn. Avoid the area. A detour is possible down College Drive and Buckwald back to Hooper Avenue via Church Road.

Holiday City at Silverton is experiencing flooding on Yorktowne Boulevard from Newport Place to Hooper Avenue. The Mount Carmel entrance remains passable but a downed tree is partially blocking traffic by Holiday City Lake.

Kettle Creek Road and the waterfont of Silverton continues to experience heavy flooding. Many roads are impassable east of Jeff Court. Police are directing traffic away from Green Island and Holiday on the Bay, and sending cars down  Brand Road to detour.

Multiple lights are also out along the Hooper Avenue corridor, such as at Fischer Boulevard, the Ocean County College lights, and Bay Avenue. Bay Avenue is also closed between Indian Hill Road and Cedar Grove Road. A downed tree and power lines are blocking the roadway and the Indian Hill light is out.

In Shelter Cove, flooding has closed Bay Avenue east of Bermuda Drive.

Toms River Office of Emergency Management urges residents to stay safely indoors and avoid making unnecessary trips due to flooding, downed power lines and felled trees. Continued poor road conditions are expected throughout the days following Hurricane Sandy.

A emergency operations hotline is currently down. Residents should instead call police headquarters at 732-349-0150.

South Shore Dr has extensive flooding. The water came up past Sage. I don't know exactly how high, but it was at least 2-3 feet.
