UPDATE: Flooding in Silverton, East Dover Reported
Wednesday storm's effects felt into Thursday morning
Township Office of Emergency Management officials are warning Thursday morning that low-lying areas in Toms River including Silverton and East Dover are experiencing "major" flooding.
"Do not drive through flooded streets. Use caution," reads an emergency statement sent through the Nixle text message alert system by emergency officials.
Toms River Chief of Police Michael Mastronardy said that authorities have seen flooding on Riviera Drive in Silverton and 2nd Avenue on the barrier island and will keep watch as high tide arrived at 11:14 a.m.
"We continue to monitor it right now," he said.
Earlier: A portion of Route 166 in Toms River flooded Thursday morning, forcing authorities to close all lanes of the highway and put detours in place.
According to the traffic service 511NJ.org at about 9:30 a.m., "there's Flooding on NJ 166 in both directions North of CR 530/CR 527/CR 549 in Toms River Twp. All lanes closed and detoured."
Heavy rains fell for much of Wednesday into early Thursday morning as winds swirled, leading authorities to prepare for flooding. A wind gust of 74 mph was recorded by the National Weather Service at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday in Brick.
By 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Jersey Central Power & Light reported 2,077 customers out of power in Toms River. The utility's Thursday morning estimate shows that power has been restored to most, with 35 customers remaining in the dark.
Residents have have reported to Patch that they have not yet seen significant flooding from the storm, but the 11:14 a.m. high tide in Silver Bay Thursday morning remains a concern for the section of Toms River hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.
The National Weather Service had issued a coastal flood advisory Wednesday, predicting minor to moderate tidal flooding associated with the coastal storm. In preparation for the storm, Toms River emergency responders were at the ready.

the usual spots are flooded. just came through. the one by the Y and on Bay View Dr. high 4 wheel is the only way. even then get your undercarriage washed. up to the doors on Jeep.

Because many street names change, depending upon what town, or even what part of town you are in. Take, for example, Rt 88, which has a completely different name in Lakewood than it does in Point Pleasant.

Off Fisher Blvd the water was up to the Blvd in some parts as of 1 pm today. Lookout Drive was flooded really bad. People who have ripped out the walls to rebuild are flooded again. Beachwood Community Center is flooded past the parking lot, Compass Ave to Beachwood Blvd and there are orange cones there. Another mess. Anyone who has their stuff in storage on Flint Road South Toms River can't get to their stuff because the road is blocked off. Its another flood spot. The Post Office in Toms River is inaccessible most of the day since the police have detours. The Water Street section up to Washington on the curve you can see the Old Amnity Ville house flooded. Dentist office is another wet zone. FYI

Lived in Shelter Cove lagoon house for 30 years. Sold my house last Aug. moved to Pa....home for holidays......drove down Shelter Cove, Silver Bay, Fischer/Windsor marina etc...etc.. In my 30 years this kind of storm would not do what I saw today. Sandy changed things!!!!!! A 3 day Nor easter will be a disaster or dare I say......Sandy all over again!!! Something is different...sewers.... bay filled with sand....I don't know

Have a home on Windsor Ave which i rent to my son. We got slammed by Sandy, horrible. last friday flooded in the laundry room again and today, whoa!! we been working our butts off trying to get that house back in order. This will never end. My kids are homeless, living with us, already spent close to $20,000 for rewiring, repairing boiler, cabinets. Spent 3 days putting up sheet rock in half the house then we get slammed today. That friggin bay just backs up onto Windsor Avenue. Something needs to be done. This is a night mare, township has to do something! I am at the point to just say frig it, let the bank take the house, don't want it any more. so friggin frustrating.......

John you are right, the bay is now filled with sand from Sandy that didn't recede and the water HAS to go somewhere , this I'm afraid IS the new norm for the tides....Go to higher ground , or jack up your house ! People have repaired after Sandy and now are flooded once again. This is a nightmare already ....

I hear all the lagoons and the bay are to be dredged out work has started which will help. But that natural inlet by Mantoloking bridge needs a big sea wall, that is where all the sand funneled in from the ocean. Until they invest in that major correction this situation will never improve. We need Army Engineers to invest like they did after Katrina to build some pretty high walls that are sturdy to take these storms. The wall they have is a joke it has already breached.......IMPERATIVE!!! lets not keep dredging over and over correct the real problem first.......then dredge
