Four Charged After Motor Vehicle Stop Turns Up 1500 Bags of Heroin

Toms River Police, Ocean County Prosecutors arrest four men from Toms River

Four Toms River men were arrested Thursday at a motor vehicle stop that police said allegedly turned up more than 1,500 bags of heroin.

The arrest, near Route 37 and Main Street, was the result of an ongoing investigation, said Capt. Jack Sramaty of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Operations Group.

"This was a very well orchestrated investigation," Sramaty said. The motor vehicle stop was not as a result of a moving violation, he said, but was "a result of an ongoing investigation by the Special Operations Group."

The four men in the vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai SUV, were each arrested and charged with drug offenses after police allegedly found more than 1,500 bags of heroin in the vehicle.

David Sullivan age 33 of Randolph Street, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin over one half ounce with intent to distribute. The Honorable Superior Court Judge Ronald Hoffman JSC set Sullivan’s bail at $15,000 no ten percent.

Jordan Laurenzo age 28 of Mermaid Avenue, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin over one half ounce with intent to distribute. Hoffman set Laurenzo’s bail at $15,000 no ten percent.

Michael Vassallo age 34 of Christian Court, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin over one half ounce with intent to distribute. Hoffman set Vasallo’s bail at $15,000 no ten percent.

Jason Vehock age 34 of  Oceanic Drive, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin over one half ounce with intent to distribute. The Hoffman set Vehock’s bail at $15,000 no ten percent.

Sramaty said the arrests were made without incident. The vehicle, which was registered to Vassallo, was also seized.

Members of the Toms River Police Department assisted in the investigation, the motor vehicle stop and arrests. "What was noteable again was the level of cooperation with local law enforcement," Sramaty said.

He's certainly NOT "The Honorable" Superior Court Judge Ronald Hoffman after he allowed such a low bail for would-be drug-pushers who were looking for 1,500 customers in the Toms River area. They could easily make bail from their last few sales. Bail should have been 10 times more!

Execute the scum, really throw a slug into the back of their head. This is getting out of control, we shouldn't have to worry about drug dealers and thieves just get them out if our society. And put the bail a million.

Why only $15,000 bail for an obvious group of organized heroin dealers? Where is Judge Hoffman's common sense. These dealers will be out on bail in no time dealing their junk and killing more of our children. Bail should have been $150,000.

There is a different between dabbling in drugs and the thought-out operation these guys had going on. I'm sure it wasn't their first time traveling the streets of Toms River with 1500 bags in their vehicle.
They should thank their lucky stars, if few hundred feet difference and they would have been in a school zone.

Won't have to worry about them being back on the streets for at least 3-5 years, due to the amount they had on them. It won't even matter if they never were arrested before, they are done.

Hope they don't mind missing out on most of their 30's.

Yes... execute them. The same War on Drugs mentality that has not worked for thirty years or more. They were probably selling to people whose first dealers were their parents and their medicine cabinets. If we treat addiction rather than kneejerk criminalization, the demand will be cut off and guys like this will have to find another livelihood.

These blights on our society need to eradicated - Give them an "overdose" of their own medicine and let them die the same way they would allow one of their clients die - Problem solved - I don't understand how anybody can justify what they were intending - Great Job OCPD & TRPD - I know it's an uphill battle but get them when you can - 1500 hits off of the streets - unfortunately, a miniscule percentage of what is out there. But all the same if just one life was saved from an OD it was well worth the effort.......

If they are using drugs or dealing them they need help, put them in rehab, jail isn't gonna help them. Part of the problem is that once the source that distributes this poison ends up thrown in a jail cell, they often tell themselves, “I don't belong here with violent offenders (rape, murder) I was just trying to keep the "party" alive". But, here is your REALITY CHECK, when you are the supplier of a substance that targets the most vulnerable of people of their drive, future, and soul, you are entertaining the hand of the devil. It is violence in its sneakiest most back-handed form. It evolves, and spreads in a sinister fashion and often rears its ugly head in violent crime. While I applaud with utmost sincerity anyone who walks through the fire of addiction, then comes through tempered and stronger on the other side, let’s not forget the lessons learned while you were there.

@Jenn...Amen!
@FyouJUDGMENTAL...it seems you are doing the judging as well...execution, I agree is extreme, but maybe those people have lost people they know to drugs, and in their eye, your friends, the "not bad people" could partially be responsible, if not remind them of people who helped take their loved one from them...an eye for an eye...that being said, just because someone grows up differently from someone else, doesn't mean they've had an "easy life"...anyone could end up where these people did, most have CHOSEN not to...it is a CHOICE and its an illegal choice with consequences if and when you get caught! So before you sir/madam go passing judgment on other peoples lives, consider where they too are coming from.

Hey man im not here to judge you but I do want to give you this piece of advise. as long as there is addicts there will be dealers. its Economics 101, supply and demand. the only reason there is a supply is cause there is a demand for it. Drugs have been around in one form or another since the beginning of civilization. the only way to stop dealers is to eliminate the market. it doesn't matter how many dealers you arrest, as long as there are addicts out there someone will take their place. I don't want to preach and I hope this doesn't come off like that but your no dealers =no addicts should be the other way around. People are not addicts because there are dealers around, there are so many dealers because there are so many addicts to profit of off. And once again I'm not saing profiting off of someone elses addiction is right, it's not, but no drug dealer ever forced their product on someone who didn't want it. to sum up the only way to get people to stop dealing is to stop people's want for it.

How about we stop and think what we should do about drug addiction. It is a disease just like cancer or diabetics. The insurance companies will only pay for 30 day treatment which is insane. They need year long programs to learn how to live drug free. My son had been in and out of 8 rehabs. The insurance company laid out over 100.000 dollars when in reality they could have saved half of that by doing it right in the first place. But that's besides the point. These guys need help and jail is not the answer....they are sick and the government needs to step up to the plate and help these poor souls. Just my opinion.

First things first, drug addiction is NOT like cancer. Drug addict is in MOST cases a CHOICE. Unless someone stuck that needle, forced you to sniff that coke, etc. then it was your choice to TRY an addicting drug. I do feel for the people, and more so the families affect by this drug epidemic going on. I truly hope that anyone using gets the help needed, but there is nothing the state or rehabs can do unless the addict wants the help. Educate your kids early on and hope for the best. It's a scary world out there.

Everyone is getting mad at the people but its the addiction that needs to be addressed there not bad people theyve done bad things i know a few of these guys and went to school with them unfortunately they got caught up and hopefully will pay the price learn and never go back.......this is coming from someone who lived that path with 9 years clean, great job, graduated school, and live and work for a living and nobody thought i could....if it were up to the community my head wouldve been slayed long ago...

It was not a mistake...It was a deliberate act of choosing to go get some drugs... I hear all of you say "They are sick and an addict and need help BUT as a mother of an addict It will never end. You are 100% correct they need help but they choose to need help.... They also choose to get help and as soon as they are free from the trouble at hand they go back...An addict can go threw rehab after rehab if they dont want to stop they won't..... Dealers start the ball rolling and the addicts keep it rolling...Murders are mentally ill so with the following opinions here you are stating they should be free and just get help bc they are essentially same as an addict (mentally ill at this time)...Mentality of our country is in the toliet...My question is if the county or government can find a person didnt get a permit to do some renovations or person doesnt pay their taxes the government can find you and in record time then why cant the government find the drugs coming in??? BC they are all in on the gravy train...Fix the corrupt police, border controllers and most of all Lawyers and court system then
maybe something MIGHT change...
