Pizza Man Held Up On Delivery

Attempted robbery of 19 year-old pizza delivery man in Pleasant Plains

Police said a 19 year-old Toms River man working to deliver pizzas arrived at a home in Pleasant Plains, only to be approached outside the house by two men who tried to rob the teen.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the teen was delivering a pizza for a local restaurant to a home on Camino Roble, near Route 70 and Cox Cro Road, around 9 p.m. He got out of his vehicle and started to walk to the home, which he said had no lights on.

"The house was dark and vacant," Mastronardy said. "As he noticed this from the front steps, he was approached by the two suspects."

The two men demanded money of the pizza delivery man, and said they had a gun, police said. One of the men went to grab into the victim's pockets, but he fought back.

"The suspects attempted to take money from his pockets but he pushed them away and they then fled on foot towards Massachusetts Avenue," Mastronardy said.

The victim was uninjured in the attack, Mastronardy said.

The two suspects fled on foot and police continue to search for the pair, both described as two black males approximately 19 years old, Mastronardy said.

Police said the two men were wearing scarfs covering their faces. One suspect is 5’ 8" wearing a black puffy coat and black pants with a multi colored scarf. The second suspect is 5’10” wearing a puffy black coat, dark pants and a dark scarf.

Toms River Police Officer Pascal Gambardella, Sergeant Ted Grob and Detectives Louis Santora and John Bajcic are investigating.

Anyone with information can call police headquarters at 732-349-0150.

You are so right. It's a shame that these kids have to be afraid to deliver pizza these days.

Not unexpected when you have a trailer park and 2 low income housing projects within walking distance of the area.

Red, why is it so terrible to state the obvious? Do you disagree with the assertion that crime is more likely to happen near trailer parks and low income housing projects, or is your issue with the political correctness (or lack thereof) of Mr Common Sense's statement?

No, Joe P I don't disagree... BUT Yeah I think my problem is with his political LACK of correctness.
Don't Assume!
There are a lot of rich kid druggies looking to get a few bucks in between their allowance from mommy and daddy too !
I get really tired of the same 'trump' card played over and over...

Hey Joe, did you READ the article? "...two black males approximately 19 years old".

How many rich black kids live in a North Dover McMansion?

all take out deliveries must be paid for over the phone with a credit/debit card, therefore the driver carries no money,NO cash accepted, that simple

It's amazing that this young man was not hurt ,,but,,, anyone reading this article......"Hand over the money!!!" It's not worth your life! Take the money out of your pocket, and throw it away from you and your assailants. They go for the money, and you run like hell. I'm glad he's safe.

Some jobs that were easy money for young people are now just not worth it,I know people will blame the economy on this but those two never had a job to begin with, food stamps and welfare probably, and it is the end of the month. To deliver in that area a driver should get hazard pay.

Good for the pizza guy!! Sounds like a couple punks looking to score some quick cash. I delivered pizza back in the mid 80's, and same crap happened to me a couple times, but the cops did not bother to do much let alone report it, since it was under $25 both times. Yes folks, there is and always has been bad people out there right in our own backyard, we just never heard about it. Next time, the pizza guy should just folk over the dough (so to speak), and get outa there.

In the WHOLE article, the writer never once mentioned the name of the pizza shop. I used to live in that area, and I used to order pizza from several of the pizza shops in the area. I'm living in Florida, now, and I would like to know WHAT business was involved. The job of a news reporter is to report, WHO, WHAT and WHERE.

Barry, I asked the police chief, and he would not say. He also would not say what menu items were ordered exactly.
