Toms River police are asking the public for help in locating the driver of a  white mini van that was involved in a hit and run motor vehicle accident Saturday night, according to Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.

The accident occurred at the corner of Fischer and Cattus Island Boulevards at 8 p.m. 

According to Traffic Safety Officer Steven Schwartz, who is investigating the accident, Samantha Schenk, 19, of Toms River was southbound on Fischer Boulevard when a white minivan changed lanes and forced her vehicle into the center median when it became airborne. 

Schenk’s vehicle, a 2002 Cadillac, landed in the northbound lanes then traveled through a hedge and came to rest on its side, Mastronardy said in an email.

Schenk was extricated from her vehicle by East Dover and Silverton Fire Companies and then transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. 

The van continued south, Mastronardy said.
