Resident Indicted on Charge of Assaulting Seaside Heights Cop

Grand juries hand up indictments

A Toms River man is free on $30,000 bail after being arrested April 2 in Seaside Heights and accused of assaulting a police officer.

Gregory S. Prentiss was charged with two counts of aggravated assault after police said he tried to "cause bodily injury" to a Seaside Heights patrolman and also threw a bodily fluid at the patrolman, according to an indictment handed up Wednesday by an Ocean County grand jury.

Prentiss made bail May 9.

Grand juries also indicted:

  • Richard B. McChrystal of Toms River on shoplifting charges. 

McChrystal was arrested Jan. 9 and Jan. 11 at the Manchester ShopRite and accused of stealing at least $200 worth of food on each occasion, the indictment states.

He was released on a summons.

  • Anthony M. Fischetta of Toms River on drug charges.

Fischetta was arrested Nov. 1 and accused of possessing heroin with intent to sell it. He also was charged with hindering his apprehension after police said he gave false information to the investigating officer.

He was released on a summons.

  • Regina R. Howard of Lakewood on a shoplifting charge.

Howard was charged with stealing clothing and accessories worth at least $200 from Boscov's in Toms River. She was released on a summons.

  • John R. Coon and Michael A. Coon, both of Toms River, on a theft charge. 

The pair are accused of stealing collectible items worth more than $500 from a Toms River man. They were released on a summons.
