Is It Ever Going To Snow In Toms River?

This week's snow forecast from National Weather Service, a local meteorologist and the Magic Eight Ball, all say yes.

The sky is a bright blue without a cloud in sight. We can guess there will be no snow in Toms River today, but how is the rest of the week looking?

In a particularly un-snowy winter, will this week be the one? Will we finally be able to make a snow ball...or even...a snow man?

We asked the National Weather Service, Toms River resident and meteorologist Scott Derek, and the Magic Eight Ball.

For both the NWS and Scott, some signs point to a Wednesday snow, if at all. The verdict from NWS is "chance of rain/snow." That sounds wet, and not very pretty. Guess my plans for Frosty the Snowman will have to wait.

What does Magic Eight Ball say? The prediction for snow this week is: "Absolutely!"

That sounds pretty certain, what do you think? Take our poll below and share yor prediction.

Here's the detailed forecast from Scott (and check out his page, here):

High pressure is in dominant control and we'll keep us with blue sky (how appropriate after the Giants big Super Bowl win) and dry conditions for the next 48 hours. Temperatures will be running 10 degrees above average thanks to a west wind around 10-15mph that creates downsloping(air goes over the mountains, the mountains zap the moisture out of the atmosphere and what's left is dry air.....dry air warms up quicker than moist air). Highs today will be around the lower 50s. Ditto for Tuesday.

Now I'm watching a little cut-off low pressure area that will work through the Tennessee River Valley that can give us a chance of rain(maybe even some wet snowflakes in the higher elevations) for Wednesday. I am looking at a high just around 40 or so....making it a cold rain.My confidence level right now is around 30% or so. How is that calculated?

(From the National Weather Service)

The "Probability of Precipitation" (PoP) describes the chance of precipitation occurring at any point you select in the area. Mathematically, PoP is defined as follows:

PoP = C x A where "C" = the confidence that precipitation will occur somewhere in the forecast area, and where "A" = the percent of the area that will receive measurable precipitation,

MY confidence is 50%,  area that sees some precip: 60%

So, 50% X 60% = 30% PoP.

Thursday and Friday seems to be sunny and still above average with highs into the upper 40s. The weekend gets colder with highs into the upper 30s, but remaining dry. All in all, the only chance(a small chance for that matter) for snow is Wednesday.

Stop looking for trouble. We had enough snow last winter to allow us a snow free winter this year without guilt. Anyone who wants snow bad enough should move to Canada. Just sayin'

If I never see snow again it will be to soon! I hate it! But don't be fooled. Some of our worst snow storms have been if Feb, and some in March as well. I remember snow on the ground on St. Valentines Day and St. Patrick's Day.Even once or twice on Easter. With 42 days till spring.....a lot can still happen. Don't put away the salt or shovel yet!
