More Than 2,000 Without Power in Toms River

Outages reported in East Dover overnight, ongoing at Route 37 and 166

More than 2,000 Toms River properties are without power, with scattered outages including the traffic light at Route 166 and 37 at 10 a.m.

Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting 2,264 customers in Toms River are without power at 10 a.m. Monday Oct. 29 as rains and winds preceding Hurricane Sandy blanket the area.

Overnight, customers in the East Dover section along Fischer and Coolidge had reported power outages to Toms River Patch. This morning, the number of affected customers surpassed 2,000.

Neighboring towns of Manchester, Brick and Berkeley are reporting fewer than 50 customers without power at this time, according to the utility company.

Toms River Office of Emergency Management officials warn of ongoing power outages as well as flooding beginning today and continuing after Hurricane Sandy departs.

From JCP&L: Customers can call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the "Report Outage" link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Customers should immediately report downed wires to their electric company or local police or fire department. Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it's no longer carrying electricity.
