Ortley Beach Resident Interrupts Car Burglary, Says Toms River Chief

Toms River Police seeking suspect in Thursday night burglary in Ortley Beach

A resident’s quick thinking stopped the further burglarizing of his car, already in progress when he came to the scene.

“Toms River Police responded to a burglary of a motor vehicle call at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, on 8th Avenue in the Ortley Beach section of the township,” said Chief Michael Mastronardy.

Mastronardy noted that the victim observed a black male, about 20 years of age, enter an unlocked vehicle in the driveway of the home and when confronted by the owner, then fled on foot towards the ocean.

“The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack. There were no proceeds taken in the car burglary,” said the chief.

The crime is being investigated by Officer Matthew Broderick. Anyone with more information is encouraged to telephone the Toms River Police Department at 732-349-0150.

This is probably the same creep who stole my GPS from my car. The car was in front of my house in Ortley Beach during the day...sad to say unlocked. The good thing is that it was an old, refurbished GPS that didn"t work.

When I moved to South Carolina several years ago, there was a very similar story on the news in Charleston. The exception is that the guy who interrupted the burlary of his car by shootinf the criminal. The only charges were against the car burglar. That is called justice.

This is most likely the same guy whom my friend wrestled with when he found him going through his car about 2 weeks ago. Someone else on the same block saw the kid again this past week and called the police. He goes up and down streets trying car doors.
