A bumper sticker took on a new meaning in an accident reported at 8 p.m. Sunday on Coolidge and Bay Avenue in Toms River.

The East Dover accident involved an overturned Jeep, with the bumper sticker “If you can read this, flip me over.”

A 1999 Ford Escort driven by Michael Palmieri, 36, of Toms River was eastbound on Bay Avenue when it collided with a 1996 Jeep driving that was westbound on Bay Avenue turned left onto Coolidge Avenue, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy.  The jeep overturned after the vehicles collided.

The Jeep was driven by James Twaddle, 25, of Seaside Park.

The irony of the bumper sticker was not lost on the officer that responded to the scene, said Mastronardy.

“Ironically, Officer Victor Tamaro quickly observed on the back window of the overturned Jeep was written ‘If you can read this, flip me over.’

Mastronardy said neither driver was injured.

Toms River Traffic Safety officer Eugene Bachonski is investigating the accident.

The driver of the Jeep obviously knew that sticker would come in handy some day! He must do a lot of careless driving.

More likely, a lot of off-roading. There's a big market for funny 4x4 stickers (an even bigger market for unfunny ones :p)

Or jeeps are thought of as vehicles that flip easily...

They don't just flip over without reason.

Be careful of what YOU WISH FOR, Mr. Twaddle!
Wow -- a little Escort won this battle.

Jeep, almost as wide as they are tall, center of gravity on the edge of tip over at all times. Don't push the envolope or you will have this same problem...if you own one might as well turn the license plate upside down too , on the rear anyway...

I've seen that bumper sticker on many 4x4's, the owner probably does some off roading.
