UPDATE: Pelican Island Residents May Return Home Tomorrow

Residents will be first of Toms River's part of the barrier island to return

EDITOR'S NOTE: A computer glitch prevented this story from delaying properly. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Pelican Island residents will able to return to their homes tomorrow morning, making them the first Toms River residents on the barrier island to be able to return to their homes after Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Tom Kelaher said.

We are delighted that Pelican Island residents can move back home earlier than we anticipated," Kelaher said in a statement posted on the township's Website. "We are looking at getting the Northern Beach area residents in next."

All four utility companies for Pelican Island have finished their testing and residents for all of Pelican Island may move back home beginning 8:00 am Thursday, Dec. 20, Kelaher said. NJ American Water completed flushing the lines, and chlorine and bacteriological testing, which lifted water restrictions there, he said.

I'm glad that some people are going home. But Toms River hasn't given Ortley Beach residents even a hint at when we can expect to do the same. We were there today and there were sightseers around, but we residents have to adhere to TR's "schedule". We can't access our homes on a daily basis, but non-residents can come in whenever. This is insane!

Marruca, Mastronardy et al are clueless bureaucrat hacks that are void of intelligent thoughts. How in the world could anyone expect them to do anything the party bosses don't approve?

Was at my residence in Ortley Beach today and was pleased to see that NJ Natural gas has finished work in my area (West side) and new meters are in place with tags stating that service can be reconnected to the residence by a plumber when certified safe to do so.
WAY TO GO NJ Natural Gas!
Now we need NJ Am Water and TR to get their act together on water and sewer.
By the way, Verizon Fios is also reconnected and ready to go.
