Police Blotter: ATM Machine Stolen from Boston's

Foyer window broken; machine valued at $5,000

A foyer window was smashed and an ATM machine valued at $5,000 was stolen from Boston’s Restaurant early Friday morning, Toms River police said.

Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the report on the incident says two males broke the window and removed the ATM machine at 4:18 a.m. The sign from the ATM was found on the ground outside the restaurant. The machine had an unknown amount of cash, Mastronardy said.

Officer Dan Brennan is investigating.

Seaside Heights woman arrested after attempted purse snatching

A Seaside Heights woman who was being chased by her victim was arrested Thursday after she ran into a Walmart employee while fleeing, police said.

Ashley Massa, 21, of Blaine Avenue, Seaside Heights, was arrested at the Walmart on Route 37. Witnesses said Massa was being chased by a 62-year-old Manchester woman after Massa took the woman’s purse from her shopping cart. Massa ran into a Walmart employee and both fell to the floor, police said. Walmart’s loss prevention officers were then able to recover the woman’s purse, which contained more than $500 cash.

Massa was arrested by Officer Frank Moschella and released on a summons. 

Doctor’s office burglarized

The Woman to Woman OB/GYN office on Main Street was broken into overnight Thursday into Friday morning, police said. An unknown subject or subjects broke in and removed a small safe that contained about $200 and seven prescription pads.

Officer Chris Leighton is investigating.

8-foot sign stolen from Girtain Signs

An 8-foot by 4-foot sign reading “Salty’s Ice Cream” was stolen from Girtain Signs on Route 9, policed said.

Security cameras showed a white Ford Ranger at the scene about the time the sign, worth $3,200, was stolen. Officer Jen Grob is investigating. Anyone with information can call Capt. Bruce Burgess of the Detective Bureau at 732-349-0150 ext. 1200.

Vehicle arson under investigation

A 2010 Ford Flex was found ablaze on the Brown Property on Haines Street early Friday morning after police and Toms River firefighters were called to a brush fire there, police said.

The vehicle, which was reportedly left unlocked, was stolen from a Hazelwood Road residence and then driven to the Brown Property, where it was set on fire and completely destroyed.

Officers Joseph Mastronardy and Thomas DiMichele are investigating.

Woman run over by own car

A Toms River woman was injured when she fell out of her car and was run over by it in front of her home on Friday night.

Debbie Dorrick, 49, of West End Avenue, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Island Heights First Aid Squad for treatment of injuries to her arms after the incident, police said. She told police she had the door of her 2003 Chevy open and the car in reverse when she fell out. The car rolled over her arms, down the driveway and struck a home at 184 West End Ave. in Island Heights.

Officer Joseph Mastronardy investigated; Island Heights police responded as well.

Beachwood man arrested at Playdrome

A Beachwood man was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault after he caused a disturbance at Playdrome bowling alley on Friday night, then fought with police officers who responded to the scene.

David Davies, 21, of Neptune Avenue, Beachwood, was intoxicated and causing a disturbance when police were called. He was being held down by other people when police arrived, and when the police assisted him off the ground, began to fight with them, police said.

Sgt .Patrick Dellane and Officer Joseph Mastronardy arrested Davies.
