Police Investigating a Pair of Burglaries

Residence, service station robbed on Thanksgiving

Toms River police are investigating a pair of burglaries that happened in sometime between Wednesday and Friday.

A home on Third Bayway in the Money Island section had its front door forced open sometime within the last two days, Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said. A Hewlett Packard laptop and a 32-inch Samsung flat screen television were taken in that incident, he said. Officers Paul Burkhardt and Shan Ruiz are investigating.

At 6 a.m. Friday, an employee of the Delta Service Station at 281 Route 37 called police to report a burglary at the station. Officers Mathew Broderick and Jason Putkowski found that a suspect or suspects apparently entered an outside bathroom and broke through an inner wall to get into the station, Mastronardy said. More than $1,000 in cash was taken from a safe that was broken into, Mastronardy said.

Anyone with information in either burglary is asked to call Toms River police at 732-349-0150.

Is the TR police dept. understaffed? Do we have the recommended number of cops for our population?

In view of the crime wave, some of the money wasted by the township govt. could be better spent on police officers. I'd rather hire a cop than waste $24,000 a year for each MUA commissioner for meeting once a month, for instance.

That shows you where the politicians' priorities are -- paying off campaign contributors and backroom cronies, rather than protecting and serving the safety of taxpayers.

I would agree that we need more police in Toms River, given the size of our population.

No way! Too many. We need more cops doing their jobs and fight crime instead of wasting time on petty bs! And can we finally do something about their out of control pensions!!!

you are kidding, right? You are turning a burglary into a political forum? Nope. There are not enough police to sit on every corner in every neighborhood to stop a burglary. Good grief.

If you believe that we have an understaffed police department, than why do we have 3 police officers with vechiles directing traffic at the new Toms River Shop Rite. Is this going to be the norm now....Open a store get a cop? Presidential Blvd at Shop Rite is still not fixed, the store was not suppose to open till the roads were fixed and operatable. Well Mr Mayor stop looking out your window to the beautiful downtown TR and look uptown to the mess you and the township committee has given us. Why don't you come down to Route 37 and Route 166 area and see what we go thru each day! or maybe you could direct traffic and let the police officers do their jobs that they are being paid for.

maybe you have the opportunity to sit at Dunkin Donuts and observe, but I don't. Everyday I go from Point A to Point B, and everyday I see many idiots on the road You want more police, I wrote to Mr Mayor numerious times of having police officers observe the traffic crossing at Route 166. Cars in the left turn lane go straight, cars making the jug handle blocking traffic crossing 166, etc. If there was police presence there could be a lot of tickets written and that would pay for more officers. Here is an instance on how stupid things are. Drive southbound on 166 and short of the jughandle and across from the northbound entrance to there is a sign that shows that you cannot make a left turn into Rite Aid or is it? Take a look!

I never knew there was a Brenton Harbor section of Toms RIver. There is Breton Harbor Drive and the Breton Harbor Property Owners Association. What section/streets are included in Money Island?

these same complainers would probably be against the use of cameras to video the idiot drivers. There is now way we could afford enough patrolmen at all these intersections as well as in everyone's neighborhood.

Great! Lets get cameras at intersections and lay off some cops. Great idea, I'm all for that..... Maybe then they will feel some pressure and start finding some of these burglars....
