Police: Man Released from Jail, Jailed Again After Foot Chase, Car Burglaries
Police search woods for fleeing man who was released from jail hours earlier
Toms River Police said a man went on to commit more car burglaries in parking lots near police headquarters shortly after being released from jail. As police responded, the man fled, leading police on a man hunt through nearby woods.
The initial incident began with the arrest of Nicholas Moriarity, 22, of Hazelwood Road at a Wawa, Route 37 and Hooper Avenue, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. Police responded to a suspicious persons call, and investigated to find Moriarity allegedly had property stolen from vehicles.
Mastronardy said police found a wallet, GPS and cell phone believed stolen from vehicles at KS Fitness and a Parkcrest Drive car. Officer Ryan Rush responded and made the arrest. Moriarty was charged, processed at police headquarters on Oak Avenue, and released after posting bail.
At 1:30 p.m., police received a call of a suspicious person that had entered a vehicle on Oak Avenue in a parking lot of an office building not far from police headquarters, Mastronardy said.
Officer Jennifer Grob responded and saw a man hiding near Red Lobster, he said. Once the man was spotted, he removed his shirt and fled across the street to some woods.
"Officer Jennifer Grob observed the suspect hiding near a vehicle in the Red lobster parking lot and officers began a foot pursuit," said Mastronardy in an email. "The suspect removed his shirt and ran into a wooded area at the northeast corner of Hooper and Oak Avenue."
Officers Grob and Frank Moschella were chasing the suspect, and Det. Glen Lucas confronted him in the wooded area and brought him to the ground, poilice said.
After an investigation by police, Moriarity was again arrested.
Police believe Moriarity allegedly entered one vehicle in the office lot and then entered another vehicle in the Red Lobster lot.
As to what was stolen from the vehicles, Mastronardy said $8 was recovered.
Moriarty was then arrested again and charged with two counts of burglary, resisting arrest and held on $75,000 bail no 10 percent.

And sadly, now he is dead, apparent overdose this week. Toms River is such a fabulous town and the justice system works so well. Putting these kids in jail instead of long term rehab does nothing but kill.

Cheryl: And we spend Millions of dollars to stop, treat and house drug users and there suppliers , when IS enough , enough...These people have chosen a life style that this out come IS predicted before hand..Do we poor more money into this endless pit ???It's like trying to empty the ocean with a tablespoon !! Live by the sword , and you will die by the sword ....He IS now just another stat in the drug war in the USA....Sad yes , but true....it's not just a problem here, it's youth everywhere who are dropping by the way side of society's where they live...if only for a short time !!

The children are our future and there should be no price tag too high. There have been too many youths that have lost their lives due to drugs. It has become an epidemic that needs to be stopped. It is so very sad!

Jeannette: But we as a nation are in debt, to the tune of 200 Trillion...every American owe's 50,000.00 dollars to our Government for doing what there doing...feeding and supplying arms and $$$ to prop up other Governments.We are on lands we shouldn't be and loosing OUR youth....Poverty begins at HOME, when EVERY American has a roof, food and a warm place to sleep, THEN I'll send funds to other Nations...this county comes to everyone else's aid , yet WE have homeless right here !!!! It's the best Country in the world and I'm glad my parents came here and I was born in this USA...God bless America..but even we can do only so much on this drug war...As long as there IS a demand , then the suppliers will come & our youth will die....Bring OUR Boys back home...NOW .

I agree with a lot that you have said. There are no perfect answers. Drug addiction is a disease. I don't believe anyone chooses to be an addict although it is ultimately their choices that put them there. I'd rather see our young Americans offered help in rehab. We are helping other countries and watching our own die. Some of these kids are young souls that I believe if given help can become productive members of society.
