Route 166 Convenience Store Robbed, Police Searching for Suspect

Images of suspect released in hopes of catching robber

Toms River Police are searching for a man who robbed a 7-11 convenience store on Route 166 just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

This morning's incident involved a man who said he had a weapon, though no weapon was shown, said Toms River Police Capt. Steven Henry. The man demanded money from the attendant at the 7-11, stole "a small amount of cash" and then fled on foot.

Henry said no injuries were reported.

Police are looking for a black male, 5'9" weighing approximately 170 lbs. He is wearing gray sweat pants, a white New York Yankees baseball hat with a blue brim, and a black jacket with a logo of wings and praying hands, Henry said.

The police captain said the man walked in to the 7-11 and then fled on foot, running in the direction of southbound Route 166 past Hilltop Road in Pleasant Plains.

Henry said after 11 a.m. that Toms River Police and the Ocean County Sheriff's Criminalistics Unit are continuing their search for the suspect.

Police have released security footage they say is of the man at the 7-11 and are distributing it in hopes of finding the suspect.

The incident is being investigated by Officer Brent Mundy, Detective Alex Scherer and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Criminalistics Unit.

Anyone with information is requested to contact Scherer at 732-349-0150 ext. 1220.

Of course Eagles fans instantly recognize ‘wings and praying hands.’ Eagles’ jackets have had wings on them forever, and for the last 15 years their fans have mostly held their hands in a praying position during games.

WoW...lovely...George, really, unnecessary name calling, however the unusual jacket should be a dead giveaway...isn't that blasphemy...wearing a jacket with an emblem like that and then committing a crime..? Thankfully nobody was hurt.

It amazes me that people still commit these crimes when they should know no matter where you are, your picture is being taken. This guy should be caught very soon.
