Column as submitted by Rep. Jon Runyan:
I write to cordially invite you to a public meeting that I am hosting along with Lacey, Ocean, and Barnegat Townships about the regional impact of the closure of the Oyster Creek power generation facility. The meeting will take place on September 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lacey Township Middle School, 660 Denton Ave., Forked River, NJ 08731. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss potential options and opportunities moving forward.
Officials from local, county, and State government, businesses and business organizations and members of the public are encouraged to attend to help us begin this important discussion. The Meeting will include speakers, including local officials, professional engineers and planners from Birdsall Services Group, and representatives from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Office of Planning Advocacy.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jeff Brabant of my staff at 202-225-4765. Oyster Creek is a major provider for both jobs and electricity for Ocean County, and the planning process must begin in order to ensure a smooth transition to a post Oyster Creek economy and community.
Sincerely,
Jon Runyan
Member of Congress

The President put $716 billion back into Medicare despite Ryan's Lies. There's a reason Ryan was booed at the AARP meeting. The $716 billion dollars represent over payments to insurance companies that the Republicans like to cosy up to. By putting that $716 billion dollars back into Medicare the President has Strengthened Medicare, Remember get the facts, Ryan lies with Great Conviction, he's not to be trusted.
Remember Fox "News" in all likelihood will have it's broadcast license pulled as it's owner Rupert Murdoch as his employees were found to be illegally tapping phones in England.

Seniors, if you know seniors, relatives in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina get on the phone with them and help them get their voter ID's NOW as the Republicans in those states are trying to keep them from voting with new & horrible voting laws. They are even sending people who are alive letters saying they are DEAD.
The Tea Partiers are playing a hand in these anti-Democratic Actions.
Remember statistically you're 39 times more likely to be struck by lightning then to find voter fraud.

Jon keep in mind what happened to Ft Monmouth, it's employees and the region will happen here. Why don't everyone just leave this plant alone and alloy it to continue to operate without interferance. It's about time we ignore the tree huggers and stop pacifying them.

I'll take a pass on advice from professional engineers and planners from Birdsall Services Group until they start to get better headlines. Of course, that is an easy decision for me. They don't play a big part in my reelection campaign.

Intelligent comments by all of the above -- except Mr. "So Much to Say." Typical of Romney-Ryan-Runyon Repubs: Insulting, hateful "nuke 'em" attitude that ignores the facts and common sense.

The President's healthcare is saving Seniors money NOW and with a healthier America future costs will come down. Now people go to VERY EXPENSIVE emergency rooms and that cost gets included in everyone's private insurance, figure it out.
GET RUNYAN TO ANSWER KEY QUESTIONS & THEN MAKE SURE THE PRESS REPORTS ON HIS RESPONSE OR HIS NON-RESPONSE.

The Veterans Job Corps Act of 2012, sought to lower unemployment among military veterans, giving grants to federal, state, and local agencies, which in turn would hire veterans -- giving priority to those who served on or after 9/11 -- to work as first-responders and in conservation jobs at national parks

At the Asbury Park Press Editorial Review Board Meeting, he was asked how he would keep Social Security solvent - his answer? Raise the retirement age - "to 75, er, 72" (chair kicked by handler sitting behind him - I was sitting NEXT to him (Bob Shapiro between us, but Bob's tiny). The Editor who asked the question followed this with "Your written answer to this question said you wouldn't raise the retirement age..." "It DOES?" said Jon. Wonder who really filled those out?
Audio on this is on youtube, thanks to another independent.
My position (and Mr. Shapiro was in agreement, and said so) was that folks are already planning their savings and retirement based on the program as it is. My position was that the annual cost of Social Security disbursement needs to be a mandatory part of each budget, but I then, albeit with a bit of vitriol, chided both the D's and the R's for going 1200 days plus without passing a Federal Budget. What are they afraid of, that We, the People, will READ it? We can't have that, now, can we?
Want to cut spending? I have many suggestions on that subject, but to REALLY make a dent, we need to have a budget to read. I am the one who, in that meeting, took out a red pen and a highlighter and said "give me a budget - I'll find the pork, and that can go first".
I gave everyone there a copy of the Change the Rules pledge, delivered to Adler and Runyan this summer. Still no response. changetherulespledge.org

I also challenged him on holding this meeting on a Wednesday night, with Birdsall Engineering as a sponsor, promising that planning was in place to insure the jobs would be protected, when the VERY next MORNING, Chris Christie, the Republican Governor, announced the three locations for the planned new plants that will replace Oyster Creek - all on the West side of the State, so I ask the obvious question - is Runyan out of touch with what his party is actually doing, or was he fibbing to garner support in the community his party is turning it's back on. Neither answer is a good one.
800,000,000.00 for a cooling tower? I call bs.
