Seaside Heights Police Chief Closes Borough's Beaches Following Second Call For Water Rescue
Red flags were flying on unguarded beach
Seaside Heights police and rescue workers were called out once again for a water rescue prompting Borough Plice Chief Thomas J. Boyd to shut down the municipality's beaches for the day.
"The beach is now closed per our chief," said Detective Steven Korman. "The chief shut down the beach. We are locking the beach gates."
In the second major incident of the day, police were called to the Blaine Avenue beach for swimmers in distress.
Upon arrival at 6:33 p.m. police found two female swimmers making their way out of the water.
At that point there was confusion over a third swimmer. Triboro First Aid and the water rescue team were called out once again.
It turned out that the male swimmer made his way out of the water at a different location, Korman said.
The female swimmers were identified as a 28-year-od from New Rochelle, NY and a 30-year-old from Albany, NY.
Red warning flags for dangerous surf were flying in the unguarded beaches, Korman previously said.

What a nuisance, it's hard for me to grasp that people can be so irresponsible with no regard for their lives or for those who have to risk theirs to save them. I say fine them when they swim unguarded and have to be saved.

No business being in the ocean...at all!!! So tired of stupid, ignorant people...and honestly, nobody should even defend their ignorance or feel sorry for them...THEY PUT THEMSELVES IN HARMS WAY...IT'S LIKE RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH MOTHER NATURE!!!

I'm originally from New York but have now been living in New Jersey for the past 4 years and I know what those red flags and other caution flags mean at the beaches. I can swim very well but I would never go swimming when caution flags are out or if there's no life guard on duty.

I agree- post signs saying that swimmers will be fined if they have to be rescued when red flags are up and the beach is unguarded. Maybe people will think twice about going in.

Thats what should bve done... post a sign, swimmers wil be fined if they have to be rescued from an UNguarded beach or after hours ! Pay the fine... if they are lucky enough to be rescued !

Those who are not surf swimmers should always stay out of the ocean......at all times ideally, but especially during a red flag day. There's a deadly difference between being a surf (ocean) swimmer and one who plays in a lake, river, pool, pond, hot tub, bath tub, etc.......New Yorkers, figures.

My husband and I were walking the boardwalk when this happened. We saw the rescue team on the beach, and the learned that everyone was alright. People were saying they should have arrested the ones that went in the water to set an example to everyone that continues to ignore the red flags. It makes me sick that the first responders have to risk their lives because of stupidity.
