SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ -- Seaside Heights remains under water, officials say.

A 50-foot piece of boardwalk was ripped up and floated from the ocean all the way to the bay, Governor Christie said.

In nearby Lavalette, houses have moved off of their foundation and are on route 35. The entire area, he said, "is completely under water."

In Seaside Heights, "the roller coaster or the log flume is in the ocean," Christie said.

"The level of devastation at the Jersey Shore is unthinkable," he said.

Rides and chunks of one of the town's piers are in the water, Christie said.

"The whole north side of" Seaside Heights, New Jersey, "is totally under water," rising halfway up most front doors, Police Chief Thomas Boyd told reporters Monday.

Roads leading to the borough, including Route 37, are blocked off.

Christie said emergency crews are now searching the area to help rescue and recover people from the flooding.

Power on the island is out in many places and likely will be for days. That means that news will trickle in from a variety of sources.
· Needless to say, there was significant flooding everywhere. At last report, 76th Street still had water on the road.
· The ocean breached the dunes in many places and in North Beach, among other places, met the bay. Those breaches have left considerable debris on the boulevard and in some places the boulevard is impassable. The Harvey Cedars police are saying that it may be 10 days before people are allowed back on the island. That may be an overly cautious statement, but I will let you know if I hear otherwise.

I've seen ariel shots where you can see vision beach. The first three houses on the north side by the ocean are gone. Houses on the south side by the ocean are covered in sand. Dunes completely flattened and sand down to the middle of the street. Lots of water in pictures down by 35. Can see most of the houses still there but can't determine damage.

If you have an oceanfront your house most likely has to be torn down, it got hit rather hard, if you are further in it may just have some flood damage.

Seaside is underwater. Houses are off foundations and in the streets. Casino Pier is gone and Funtown Pier has rides in the Ocean. It is completely closed off from anyone entering as there is so much water and debris. Not to mention the houses sitting in the middle of 35. While they were evacuated, some people chose to stay and my thoughts are with them.

I called the cops today to rescue a friend stuck in his house no heat, power, and running short with food and when they showed up they said he has to stick it out no one is coming in or leaving. It is devistating to think he is stuck there. Up to 5ft of water surrounding the house.

Green island was in the bay. The surge was frightening. The water never went over our dock since 1981. The palings were under water. Boats on trailers were floating in the lagoon. Sorry to say the bay went right through some of the bay front properties. Looks like a tornado struck. Debris everywhere. We are almost at the end of Bay View Dr. Still not able to get out. Good luck everyone.

Horrible pictures horrible situation..hope the amusement park(s) and residence had insurance to repair it self, for I dont know where the money's gonna come from. If not I guess, either look for investors, or call in the scrap dealers to haul away the metal to make some money on their losses. I dont think the Gov. is gonna raise taxes to repair this area, especially with 2yr away from re-election it goes against his grain. Personally, as a jersey guy who grew up and visited and had a place down there (lavallette area) its a beautiful place, BUT.. I say the state should buy the people out that were washed out, and tear down the homes, and dont build again there, and those that are still standing. Make sure they have enough insurance to cover TOTAL replacement of their home and have the township's check annually to make sure those residence and businesses have proper insurance..if not they could lose their homes to the state in a buy out. its not the states (taxpayers) job to make sure your house gets replaced if your not insured. If you choose to live on a volcano, earthquake area, tornado area, you can..but that doesnt mean the rest of us have gamble on your choice of location to live. If you gamble..you can get wiped out, you dont see the casino giving the losers back their money why should the state pay for your choice to live in a flood area.
