'Spelling Bee' Performance Coming to High School South

Tickets are $5 for Feb. 28, March 1 and March 2 performances

Toms River High School South's Theater Guild will present "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," a musical comedy, later this month.

The show, which focuses on a spelling bee for 12-year-olds, once appeared on Broadway and earned six Tony nominations, taking two of those awards. The High School South production will hold its opening night on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.

"Literally join us onstage for this musical packed with quirky characters, audience interaction and improvisational comedy," reads a statement issued by the theater troupe.

Appearing in the production, directed by English and Theatre Arts teacher Kristine Perry, are senior actors Laura Brown, Keiran Wilson, Tyler Nice, Amanda Lujardo and Lexie Calabro.

The show continues at 8 p.m. on both Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2. Tickets to all shows are $5 and can be purchased at the door or ordered in advance by emailing theplayatsouth@trschools.com. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis and there are no reserved seats.
