Toms River Stabbing Suspect Arrested in Florida

Steven Rosado apprehended by Orange County Sheriff's Office

A Lakewood man wanted for murder in Toms River was apprehended Monday in Florida.

Steven Rosado, 20, was charged Sunday with murder by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

According to records at the Orange County Incarcerations Department in Florida, Rosado was arrested 2:20 p.m. July 2 by the Orange County Sheriffs Department.

He was arrested on a fugitive warrant, with the original charge being Criminal Homicide With a Knife, out of Ocean County.

Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said an investigation found "probable cause" that Rosado stabbed Kevin Copes in the Briar Knolls apartment complex parking lot.

Copes, 24, of Lakewood, later died from his injuries after friends transported him to Community Medical Center, 1:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Ford said Sunday that police believe Copes was stabbed after getting into a fight with Rosado.

"As a result of that investigation, we determined that Rosado was involved in a fight with the victim and that we believe probable cause has been established to implicate Rosado in connection with the crime,” Ford said in a prepared statement released Sunday.

Ocean County Judge James N. Blaney set Rosado's bail at $750,000 with no 10 percent option on Sunday.

Ocean County Executive Assistant Prosecutor Michel Paulhus said yesterday the investigation into the stabbing, as well as a shooting on Gilford Avenue an hour prior, was open and continuing.

Lakewood is all owned by temples, who rent to their members, the houses, all tax EXEMPT, wonder why it is, what it is? Religious tax exemption, of any kind is a dinosaur, badly abused and cost the taxpayers an extra burden. Time for them to pay their property tax!

Is that the deal, John? I try to steer clear of that area, but anytime I have had to pass through there I always wonder how these young families with 6 or 7 kids can afford those huge homes. Hmmm, interesting.

@ SO MUCH TO SAY ... Maybe you should do your research before you go running your mouth its ignorant people like you that assume the victim was a criminal. Well he wasnt he was a working young man that didnt deserve to be murdered. If it was your family that was murdered Im sure you wouldnt want them to assume that your family member was a criminal or "deserved" what they got. Maybe you should take your ignorant self back to grade school and learn "Do on to others, what you want done on to you" which is common respect for other and the deceased. Learn manners!!!! Some people just dont like being called out and put in their place when the run their mouth for NO APPARENT REASON.

Bravo @ SO MUCH TO SAY... Didnt think that you could be anymore ignorant then you were in your first comment. You definitely topped it with this comment. So what your saying is that pictures of his "hip hop page" and "facebook page" show how much of a criminal he is, your clothes and the music you listen to dont determine "criminal status". Show me an arrest report that says he had ever been threw the system... You cant because it does exsist!!!! Its wrong for you to not even RESPECT someone that was murdered. Instead of sending condolences, your posting you IGNORANT opinion. Im sure you have no clue of the people all your family "hang" with so dont speak on other. I just pray that if the same situation were to happen to your family people wont disrespect your deceased the way you disrespecting Mr. Kevin Copes who was a 24 yr old aspiring artist in the rap industry and contrary to what some people (so much to say) have to say DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE, or deserve to be considered a criminal for the clothes he wore or music he listened to.

There isnt any hate on my part. This so much to say person is disrespecting the deceased and calling him a criminal because of the pictures he saw on facebook and his music page. I knew Kevin personally and I will not stand for having someone past judgement over someone who I know was a caring hard working person. With NO CRIMINAL background. I am stating facts and as a friend letting (So much to say) know that he did associate with educated individuals like myself thats all. I will not stand for IGNORANCE prevailing over FACTS!!!!!

Ohhh please! He took out Bin Laden any sitting president would have done the same giving the chance! Yes he was handed a mess, but hasnt done much if at all to help it either. Giving his experance if he were white would have been giving a chance to run for president yet alone be one. He got elected on good speeches and his hope & change crap. Which worked out to be " Hope you have a job & Change in your pocket". He is a good man who wasnt ready to be president yet! He got elected on race and people pissed at President Bush not because he was the best for the job. He hasnt kept a promise yet ( here is where u insert blame). Its always funny how ignorant people can always find a way to pass it off as someone elses fault.

Bryan you have no clue what your talking about or why the president was brought into subject. This is not an article on the president its about ignorant people as yourself talking on a subject they have no clue about and the 1 that posted the president comment I replied about was erased so now you look like a fool. Its easy to run your mouth with no facts to back it up. If anyone could have done it why didnt they. Hmm because they couldnt and as I said before he took office with everything failing and has still managed to hold his head up. No 1 is perfect but I guess you would believe anything as long as it wasnt Obama! Stand down read the title of the article (Nothing to do with the president)

You want to know how the young families in Lakewood afford the big homes? There are multiple families living in them. They deem the home a house of worship & don't pay taxes. The men go to temple during the day, the woman stay home and have kids. They are on welfare. Every, single one of them.

That is the truth and they are allowed to get away with it. They are sucking the town of Lakewood dry. Those of you who do not live in Lakewood and think this is not your problem are wrong. They receive public assistance, and all of you who are taxpayers are paying for it. You work and they benefit from your labor.

This is said that grown people behind a computer has so much to say. Remember when you assume you make an ass out of yourself. It's sad that the young generation is killing dying at a young age because their killing one another. Instead of being in the streets they need to do something more productive with themselves and give back to the community. People who says ignorant comments are in fact ignorant themselves and their no better then the next person. Act like you have common sense and get your act together. It is a shame that us young generation are dropping like flies and we're lucky now a days to even make it to 30 years of age. Sad but so true.
