TELL US: Has Your Power Been Restored?

More than 400,000 still without power; service slowly returning to customers at the Jersey Shore and Mercer, Middlesex and Union counties

Power appears to be returning to residents, slowly.

JCP&L said in a release that it has restored power to nearly 160,000, or about 20 percent, of its customers and expects to have the majority of customers restored within the next seven days. Atlantic Electric reported similar results.

(TELL US in the comments section below: where do you live and is your power back on?)

It could take up to two weeks for customers in the hardest-hit areas to regain power, the company said.

JCP&L reported 940,999 of its nearly 1.1 million customers remained in the dark as of Wednesday night, according to its outage map. The number includes 264,061 in Monmouth; 202,655 in Ocean; 73,388 in Middlesex; 23,880 in Union; and 16,442 in Mercer.

"The damage from Hurricane Sandy far exceeds what we saw from Hurricane Irene or the October 2011 snowstorm," said JCP&L President Don Lynch in a release. "While we were better prepared for Hurricane Sandy, the damage rivals that experienced during Hurricane Katrina, one of our nation’s most devastating and expensive hurricanes."

The Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Company invited residents to its headquarters Wednesday night to recharge cell phones, take a warm shower and have some coffee. Turnout was light, as fire officials said it was difficult to alert residents to the event since the reverse 9-1-1 system currently does not work.

I am in the Salem Hill/New Friendship Road area, and as far as I know, these areas are still without power...the traffic lights are out on Route 9 and only a few "turnarounds" available...Red Moon Pizza open and possible some others on generators...call first...supermarkets open, but only non-perishables...The Southard Fire Dept is open for those needing help, and there are other shelters in Monmouth County...check here or on NJ.com

I live on Liberty street in Long Branch ,New jersey have been with out power for 6 days!!!! I saw a JCPl Truck come through yesterday (Saturday Nov. 3 2012) looked like they were accessing what had happen , and I have never seen them since!!!
Then today (Sunday Nov 4,2012 ) I saw several Alabama power co. trucks in our Neighbor hood at around 1:30 pm . I asked one of the guys who was sitting in his truck by were a tree had knocked over a power line and severed the pole on Rockwell Ave if they were going to get the power restored today. He replied "We Hope too" the tree was removed 3 days ago. I went back to Rockwell to see if they had started working on it around 2:30 pm and no one was there and all the power trucks we had seen earlier in our neighbor hood were gone. I am so Finng frustrated with JCPL !!!! other parts of long Branch,Eatontown, and Oceanport have power. This is Classic JCPl. Before this storm hit JCPL stated they were prepared for this storm and had crews from all over the country here ready to go. Complete Bull sh@#T!!!

Still half of my neighbors on our 2-block street in Cranford are without power. Although the town has cleared a number of trees/limbs, I understand only PSE&G can touch the large downed trees wrapped in wires and the live wires still on the ground.

Live In the Avenel, Have not had power since last Monday. Doubt the Nov 9th date PSE&G says for restoration will happen, We have called twice about a downed line that keeps getting lower and lower to the ground and will probably take a telephone pole with it if this new storm has any high winds.

My brother and his family live on short hills avenue in Springfield. Parts of their town have power, except them. Can someone please work harder and faster there? I know everyone has suffered because of the catastrophe but this wasn't even on the coast. Please help them at least to get the power company's attention, temps are freezing at night and their boys have just had some health problems lately. Thanks.

Long Branch - no power - JCP&L won't tell us when. Respectfully, this is nothing like Katrina. The comparison insults our intelligence. We in Monmouth County are not living below sea level; there are no broken levees; there are, thank God, no mass casualties. When this is over, I hope our elected officials conduct an appropriate inquiry into JCP&L's conduct. In particular, JCP&L should be compelled to disclose its pre-storm planning, its post-storm recovery plans, and how it determined which neighborhoods to restore (and which to ignore). All of that is a secret as of now - which inevitably raises suspicions. What is JCP&L hiding from the public?

peter.. the power companies have priorities. 1. hospitals, 2 municipal complexes, 3 infrastructure like water companies (to pump it) and 4 gasoline distributors that dont have power to load fuel trucks 5. private citizens this is proper and the right way to handle it.. if you saw how many trees are down you would understand.. kim

I am with you Kim. JCP&L seems to be working round the clock in a disaster situation. In many cases it is not amatter of just hooking people back up but rebuilding poles and infrastructure. I have no relation to anyone in the power industry, but become incensed when people sound so self centered and insensitive to the situation.

Comment_arrow

I think the priority is as Kim Frank suggested.

Peter, I don't know of ANY company in the North East that prepares for a direct hurricane hit or an earth quake or a tsumi. Why? Because it's rare.

9:57 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012

I think what Peter is trying to inquire about is exactly what JCP&L should have been prepared to handle. Irrespective of the view that hurricanes may occur rarely where we live the fact remains that they absolutely do happen here on the east coast and energy companies should be required to invest some profits in maintaining its infrastructure for such an occurrence. That means before a storm hits, not after. To be unprepared is negligent behavior. There is no defense under law for a private entity (or public) entity to simply say that it has no responsibility to prepare simply because hurricanes don't happen much here. As for responses below, I wonder why so many of you are so upset that he has raised that issue? It's a valid one as we enter day 5 of this crisis. My parents live in a senior community, have multiple health problems and have been without power since the day of the hurricane and it is now Friday. I don't think they are being narcisstic for wondering when they can return home (very strange analogy used by Laura below in wondering why someone would want power restored particularly as Laura has access to a computer and power so its no issue for her). One would think senior communities where some of our most vulnerable live would be a priority. But at least according to Kim below, that doesn't seem to be one. Kim-are you in PR for the energy company? If you are, I feel badly for you. You will really have your work cut out for you in the next months.

JCP&L has restoration charts on their sites advising how many outages, how many restored, and 4-day estimate of how many homes will be restored...only thing they don't have is location, so you don't know when it will be your turn.

My sister actually got an answer at the service number and a live person talking, telling her when power should be restored to her neighborhood in Roxbury.

I live in Lawrenceville by the Brunswick Circle. My power has been on since Wednesday evening. My parents, however, live on over by Dunkin Donuts on Princeton Pike and are still without power. I called PSEG last night-it was about 2am when I called and they immediately picked up (just a note for those trying to get through to them). They told me a substation was under 6ft of water. They were 80-90% done repairing that and then they would concentrate on the areas still affected by the outage. They also told me that on Rt. 130 headed towards Bordentown there were 20 utility poles down and that area was hit hard. So he said anywhere from Friday to Sunday-worst case scenario. More like Friday or Saturday. Hope this helps...

I have been living here for over 12 years and not once do I remember losing power for any long period of time. This makes me believe that we have a pretty strong system so I am unsure as to why it is taking such a long time to restore the power. I am very grateful to be alive and to still have a home, but the cold is unbearable. I really hope something gets done soon. its only 50 degrees inside my home and each day it is dropping.

Day 4 with no power, running water and heat. We're well dependent. Yet the towns around us who are not well dependent have been powered up; Lincroft, Tinton Falls.. PSE&G has no answer.

Has PSE&G ever published how they determine their power restoration priority, what is their recovery plan? When did they test their plans last. What preventive measures have they taken since.

Thoughts to ponder.

Anyone heard about whether there is power in Keansburg yet? I am on Seeley Avenue, i have a sick grandson and the nights are getting cold... I'm just asking, i realize there are tens of hundreds of thousands of people in the same boat... Remember all, these power company guys and gals are busting their butts to help us all... If it were that easy of a job to do we would all be doing it... Thanks very much to all who have helped someone during this storm and aftermath... If everyone did just one kind or nice thing for another things wouldn't be so tough for everyone... Is there any open gas stations near Keansburg who has gas? I am almost out and need to make it to work tomorrow (i am writing this from work right now)... Any helpful comments would be appreciated...Good luck to us all!!!

I'm off of 88 in brick. Saw guys in jcpl truck coming around. Asked them what the status is. They r going around checking lines and trees down etc, and making lists to prioritize situations in order of how hazardous things r in that area. Then they deploy trucks in order of lists. They r working hard...I'm cold just like the rest of you, but they really r trying their best under this circumstance.

Also a large pine tree on our property fell on our detached garage. I flagged down a JCP&L truck on our rear street, Shore Blvd. I told them my situation and asked them to come look at it. They were here within an hour and disconnected the electric line before the power came back on that night. They said call and they will reconnect it when the garage is fixed. The man pointed towards the river three blocks away and said,"They are very hard hit down there." They were very helpful.

regardless if they were prepared or not. There are a LOT of trees right now, not to mention the light poles, telephone poles as well. I guess most expect those things to be fixed with a snap of the finger. AND NO I DO NOT WORK FOR EITHER. but seriously i want the electric and the heat on just like everyone else, but what I really want is to be able to go home.

Nope...we were very prepared. FIgured out how to hook up all the necessary things to a generator (sump pump, small fridge)....bought items we could cook on a stove and stocked up on water. but now the gas is running out and the stations are either empty or have no power to pump...so the generator is rendered useless.

I'm lucky enough to have a fireplace to heat some rooms in my home. others may not have this. i'm thankful i at least have a home, but in order for those of us with homes left to help those who lost theirs, we will need to power up. your assumption that those complaining are unprepared is completely unfounded.

Union , NJ - no power. I live in Troy village and there is a huge tree down at the end of Troy Drive and Baltrusol (?). I haven't seen one truck or crew over there to dis-entangle that tree from the power lines. There is no way the power lines can be prepared until that tree is removed. No tsure why tree removal isnt happening faster.

JCP&L is supposed to be working around the clock 24/7. I haven't seen anyone, not one truck in Springfield.

However even without Sandy, the electrical grid in Springfield is not that great. There is a transformer on a telephone pole near me , and that has to be the oldest thing I have ever seen. Sometimes it hums. It has to be from the turn of the century (not this one; the last one - like the 1900's).

Peter, I would be willing to bet that part of the delay is that the total damage has yet to be assessed, and that they are working on block infrastructure first - shelter locations, hospitals, responder facilities, etc. I am also sure that there is far more disorganization than necessary, but WHO plans for a catastrophic loss of the entire infrastructure - in the vernacular, it sucks - no doubt. Hang on...they're coming.

All of you that are complaining are beyond pathetic.... Big deal you don't have power for a week. You were probably the same people rushing to the grocery store before the storm buying perishables without the common sense to realize that they were going to go bad. I am quite certain that PSE&G as well as JCP&L are doing the best they can as well as all of the local townships to get your power back. I'm in Scotch Plains - now power yet and they're estimating another 5-7 days and I would much rather someone's home or life be saved then for me to be able to watch an episode of Jersey Shore. Go spend time with your family....read a book....have a conversation....help your neighbor clean up their yard. And if you need medical attention - go find it....there are plenty of places offering it while you're on this site complaining that you don't have a hair dryer. And if you have a generator or electricity why don't you offer to have your friends and neighbors spend a night with you? It's certainly not the fault of a power company or any politician that you didnt prepare for this.....

Criticism of victims is, I suggest, not productive. All I want to know is when our service will be restored - 2 days or 2 weeks or a month? It' the difference between inconvenience and a threat to my family's health. Do we flee and hope our home isn't vandalized before we return, or ride it out? The utility company knows the schedule - it just won't tell anyone. How can we cope without this basic information?

It kills me that people are complaining about gas yet using their generators to watch TV and run their dishwasher. Additionally, this is huge. In order to get power the workers have to do more than flip a switch. They are doing the best they can. At least someone is working and not crying because they can't get on Facebook. Lastly, if we treated the earth with slightly more respect and didnt consume resources at a hoggish rate none of us would be in this situation.

Hello,

I wanted to donate food/clothes to the victims of the hurricane. I am not sure where I can bring my donations. Any information? It is sad watching people in our state running out of food and with no clothes. Thanks

For those that can get to route 78. Its a 2 hr round trip to gas and groceries in PA. May be quicker than the gas lines in Union county. May also find gas cans for sale still in PA. I did see UPS in Fanwood today. . .so amazon may also be able to deliver if notnyou then use a friends address. Worth a look for generator supplies and canned goods. Good luck all.

I live in East Windsor and everyone around us has power except us. On Main St by Peddie there are 2 JCP&L employees in a pick up looking at a tree that is down on electric lines. Talk about being ripped off. On Conover there are trees down for days and no one is doing crap about it. Hey I pay a ton of taxes an they can care less. Get me my power back, pleaseeeeee. I am tired of getting ripped off.

I have been commuting to work north of Monmouth to where power was restored on Monday evening. Where I live in Monmouth, there are no downed trees or lines or palpable damage of any kind - it's just cold and dark. Whatever the conditions, the utility co has no excuse for refusing to tell us when our power will be restored, or even why our service area is out. JCP&L knows this information, but won't release it. Just tell us if it will be a day or a week or a month.

I understand they are not the only ones, but it is scary to have 80 year old people shaking under blankets for days. Shelters will not accept you unless you have major damage or loss of home. Thankfully they only have minor damage, but no help for ppl in their predicament.

You DO NOT have to have major damage or loss of your home to go to a shelter run by the American Red Cross. Anyone without power and heat may go to a Red Cross shelter for warmth and recovery. The nearest shelter to your relatives is at the Werblin Recreation Center at Rutgers University - 656 Bartholomew Rd., Piscataway. I don't know about guidelines of independently-run shelters of churches or municipalities, but I work in fundraising with the Red Cross, and I lived near the Old Bridge/Matawan border for years, so I know the area. If your relatives will go to the shelter, they should try to take personal hygiene items, their medications, if any, and some blankets and pillows with them, if possible. Check the American Red Cross website at www.redcross.org for info about shelter locations.

Unfortunately, JCPL waited until Tuesday afternoon to apparently begin a 24-36 hour "assessment period." After that, more time was spent drafting a plan.

Instead of heading out Tuesday and working on the hospitals and other essential facilities, they drove around and wrote reports. Much of the "restored" residential power they are chest thumping about is power that was shut down to avoid any potential problems if lines went down.

we have always made fun and mockery about other countries when unfortunate things like this happen. Example: Entire country of India had lost power earlier this year due to power grid failure. Media was all over the place. Blaming, condeming and calling 3rd world country and many more.

The entire country was back in less than 12 hours.

And here in NJ, we are still struggling to see the power coming back and it has been over 4 days. Lack of efficient employee and management is what screws thing up. I am pretty sure all the higher up in PSEG and JCPL will get their huge bonuses. NJ Govt never put pressure on these companies....not at once. NJ govt is corrupt and not capable of handling disaster situations. period!

You think Obama and Christie should grab some downed power lines and reconnect them to a transformer?? Maybe a chainsaw and chop up some trees so traffic can get by? Oh maybe they can bring you a jug of gasoline to run your generator. What exactly are YOU doing to help JCP&L?? Probably less than the politicians that you are so angry at as if it's the governor or the presidents fault that a disaster that could not be prevented ripped apart our state. Glad you were able to watch the news though, as I'm sure you have some friends or neighbors that could use a little help...

No power still in Long Branch (West End), though adjacent areas of West LB were restored yesterday. Worse, absolutely no info from JCP&L about how long it will be. Trying the website (fatuous identical message of " a week or two weeks or longer" for every towm in the county), email to PSE&G (like anyone will respond...), municipal website (hah!). did find http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2012/10/31/power-companies-face-long-soggy-repair-effort/ which yielded a grain of truth: "Meanwhile, along the New Jersey Shore, there was no timeline for restoring power service, owing to widespread damage to facilities and power lines that serve neighborhoods and people’s homes, a spokesman for Jersey Central Power & Light said." So, whom do we believe - the gibberish on their website that says "majority online within a week," or their spokesman addressing financial markets (and likely required by securities law to be truthful)? Is there or is there not a timeline?

Still no power East Brunswick Route 18 and Rues Lane. This is getting very frustrating! Keeping 2 young children (sick with strep) happy, warm and fed is becoming very difficult on day 5. Like so many others we have lost our food to spoilage and replacing isn't very easy. If you can find a place to shop we are very limited because of storage . Called pseg yesterday to be told our restoration date has been changed from Monday 11/5 to Friday 11/9, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is ridiculous!!!

HOWELL - Although much of the power in Howell was restored last night, As of this morning when I lef for work, I still have no power. The businesses and developments surrounding my development are all up and running. I'm hoping that soon our development will join the list of those restored. Staying positive! Lost all my food, but at least my refergirator is clean! Hang in there everyone. It could have been much worse for us all. Be happy that all we lost was power.

It appears that PSEG is generally telling everyone -- as well as posting -- an estimated service-return date of November 9. That is the date posted in my on-line PSEG account regarding my outage. However, after an outage of three days, my north-side Cranford home received power last night (November 1) at 7 pm. It's good to be warm again!

I'm in Howell on the west side of Aldrich Road and still no power. A little worried because a big tree is down on Lake drive and Aaron and it knocked down wires and is leaning on other perfectly fine wires. I'd be happy if the tree was removed before it pulls down even more wires. My neighborhood usually loses power so no real surprise there.

We had to leave and stay at a family.members house because it was too cold just to sleep. I keep seeing people say their power is back on. The block next to mine had their power back on but they didn't touch the rest of my neighborhood. All of the wires are still laying in my street. I understand there are a lot of people with no power but its just not making sense to me as to how the block NEXT to mine has power and yet, I do not. Going on day 6 with none.w

no power still in Belle Mead, although it was on for 2 hours on Thurs, then shut off again. i don't think the lack of trucks on the road is that bad of a sign, because a lot of the damage was also to substations, not just the distribution lines/poles. when the substations get fixed, a big part of the problem is getting fixed. i found a good, simple diagram that helps explain the restoration process: http://www.pseg.com/home/customer_service/outage_info/pdf/njcm_summer_2012-restoring%20power.pdf

Still no power in Monmouth Heights,Manalapan. I drove through several neighborhoods and could not believe all the power lines That were down. Here's a suggestion, make it a law that you must have at least 10 feet clearance around a power pole and power lines.I mean I see trees hugging these poles all over the place. I just miss my electricity. I have a small baby and a 3 year old and they can't stay in my house because its too cold for them .

To the complainers, most of us don't have power! So you are inconvenienced with not being able to watch your tv show or turn on the lights. If you had lost your house you would be glad to have a roof over your head. It takes time to fix problems and although you think you are the most important person on this earth there are other people worst off. Get over it! No power in Belmar but not complaining. No power yet here in the Beach. Not that I expected it to be on this morning. Or tomorrow morning for that matter. People, we had a MEGASTORM! I know the utilities are working as hard as they can. If folks still have no power and want/need to stay at their homes, put out the word to all family, friends, acquiantances, call everyone you know for a generator. That's what we did and we're now living pretty comfortably. People want to help and as power is restored to more and more people around the state, they are looking to give their generators to those in need.

I saw where you get off of the rt 9 exit for Matawan there are businesses, homes, etc. That have power. I believe that is still Matawan and not Old Bridge. Once you get toward the quick check near Ravine dr it is black.

Does anyone know the area where the jcp&l boss lives. Did his area loose power and was that area immediately restored.
We have to make them accountable and hold them to the fire. I personally will call for public hearings on the company's response to the outages and would like to see customers have a choice between pse&g and jcp&l.

South Amboy is still without power and not a word from mayor Fred Henry. The other mayors who took to the airwaves were restored. We need a fighter in south Amboy .
Jcp&l website indicates that parts of south Amboy was restored. The number of affected customers are much much higher that they have listed on their site.

Members of the public, we don't have to accept this.

Applegate off of East Freehold Rd has been back since Thursday. Don't know about the other areas you mention. Everything in East Freehold, east of Kosloski Rd, and most of Colts Neck still out. I know Independence Square off of Park Ave(33) and Shanck Rd west of rt 9 came back last night. Cannot understand why East Freehold is always last to come back. Same thing with Irene. No one to talk too, no one responsible. We need a choice/competition between companies, as someone mentioned in these blogs. Otherwise we must grin and bear it. Our little taste of European socialism. Unacceptable.

My sister and brother-in-law live on Indiancreek Road in Matawan. Their electricity went out on Monday, and they are still without power. What gives New Jersey Power and Light? I think they have been in the dark way too long now. Does anyone know when they will be getting their power back? This outage time is completely bogus, and they should have gotten their power back by now. The weather is getting colder and people are suffering. Get their power back now!!

Still no power in Forked River. Actually every street has power around my house except for the 5 houses on my cul de sac. How is that even possible? Surrounding houses have had power since early Friday morning and yet a few houses here do not. There wasn't even any damage in this area. No explanations from JCP&L whatsoever. At least if I had an idea of when it might be restored that would be helpful. I just don't see how they still have no idea when.

As stupid as this sounds...call JCP&L to report your power outages and if you think your area has power and you dont..be sure to check all circuit breakers and your panel box. JCP&L phone number,,,(888) 544-4877..it doesn't hurt. Prayers to everyone still in need..I'm sure you'll all be back to normal soon.

I just checked the outage chart that jcp&l placed on their website and the information was false and misleading. They are claiming that half of the South Amboy residents were without power when in fact the entire city is without power. I will use their numbers when I request a hearing on the restoration situation.
Additionally, they are claiming g that they have restored some power in the city when no one, absolutely no one was restored. Very misleading and false information by jcp&l l. Where are you Fred Henry. I spoke to the Police department and no one was restored. Jcp&l you are telling your customers and the public lies. Why is that?, what are you trying to hide. Still no power Forked River Beach. Next door neighbor has power. They got an automated call from the mayor saying that the reason certain houses don’t have power on my street is because we are on the same circuit as the waterfront homes. They can’t turn on power until they inspect those homes to make sure they are safe. Called town hall they know nothing about it? How can they not know anything, the freakin mayor made the call!!!!

Why would they? Imagine how hard it is. Ever try to rewire a circuit in a house? It isn't so straightforward (in my analogy when wires and other connections are buried in the walls and not visible -- or when trees miles away may be interfering with a circuit).

JCPL publishes even estimated dates for streets and people will NUKE on them when they fail to deliver. Who'd want that? Maybe people who like to live lifes full of stress, angst and anger. We've got plenty of them in NJ and here on Patch.

Like Lynny said - we'll get it when we get it. Be happy you have a home.

Sorry to use your post Margaret but let's keep the perspective - put yourself in JCPL shoes. You've got posters above calling for the heads of JCPL execs. Imagine going home (or not - calling in from the office where you've been sleeping - or a truck in some town as you are in the field trying to help) and explaining to your wife you may lose your job because some folks are pissed they can't watch the Giants game?

JCPL isn't some big evil company. It is a group of NJ people like us trying to cope with an unprecedented disaster.

Let's live the motto - Jersey Strong - and have cooler heads. I won't get power for at least another week - there is too much damage to the lines all around us. I hope for you Margaret it comes on quickly. I'm pulling for you!

Best of luck

Margaret, my husband spoke with a Mercer County rep. who reported that JCP&L informed them that 23% more residents in East Windsor should have power by tonight. We live off on Dutch Neck and don't have electricity yet but I am hopeful that they will make One Mile Rd. a priority considering the amt. seniors residing in that area. Also, I read the folliowing on East Windsor's website that may be helfpul to your parents: November 5, 2012 9:00 am - The American Legion Post No. 148, located at 895 Route 130 in East Windsor, will be opening up an Emergency Shelter for those in need today Monday, November 5 at 3 pm, with coffee and a warm place to stay. Dinner will be offered today Monday at 6 pm, and lunch and dinner will be offered Tuesday, November 6 and Wednesday, November 7 --- free of charge. There will be a charging station where residents can charge cell phones, laptops and PDA's. Overnight stays will be offered to residents; residents should bring sleeping bags and blankets. For further information, call 609-448-4055.

I understand your frustrations with JCP&L's lack of information and I hope the above information is useful.

First and foremost, my heart goes out to those who have suffered tragic losses. I have no power in Point pleasant. Lots of Point pleasant has power. I am fortunate enough with 7 other familes to be at my sisters in Point where it was restored on Friday. I am VERY concerned about no power at lights of two major interesections (1) Bridge and Rt 88 and 88 Bridge ( Herbertsville and Beaverdam). People are crazy and not obeying the 4 way stop when lights are out. The pole snapped in my driveway and pulled meter off house with all wires from main road and all wires down and I was told it is not a priority and it may be 3 weeks. I can honestly say- after seeing first hand the devastation of my friends houses in Mantoloking, Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach, Orley Beach, Normandy Beach, it is what it is- I will deal with it... Pray for all these people that they CAN get their lives back in order and have some normalcy. Right now, it is PURE CHAOS and SO MUCH ANXIETY GOING ON and I find myself helpless that I can't do more for them.

These guys and gals are working their asses off day and night. There is only so much they can do each day. They are not home with their families and loved ones and many have not seen a warm bed .in over a week because they are out there trying to do a job that from the start seemed impossible. They are making progress and instead of everyone bitching and complaining, try saying thank you and maybe a few kind and encouraging words for all the help. i JUST got my electric back after being with out it for since Monday of last week, I was evac'd from SSH so essentially IF i was at my REAL home which technically my family including my 5 yr old is homeless have NO POWER and NO GAS for god only knows how long and will have to relocate. But I digress. I have my life, my families lives as well. Material things can be replaced. Being upset over the men having a lunch/dinner break is the least of my problems right now. so before speak think about what you are saying there COULD be wires or trees down within the grid. As a matter of fact I have friends that lived mind you I said LIVED because there house in Snug Harbor was destroyed along with there cars which is not too far from Foodtown. I am sorry that you do not have hot food. I truly am, but these men are doing the best they can including the ones coming from as far as California to help.

I have relatives just off Vaughn Ave in Toms River- still no power since Monday night. They are tired, stressed, worn out from it all too, but instead of complaining, know what their teenagers are doing -- both yesterday and right now? Volunteering at TR High School east where they are gathering food, clothing and necessities for people.....
I also have two relatives and their families HOMELESS, and lost everything, because of the storm, (one family is living with me, now, and probably for the next 6-8 months).
I just heard about a friend's daughter whose home was flooded and while she was there cleaning it up yesterday, the smell and mold triggered her asthma and she died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. She was 25 yrs old!
Stop taking your power outage like some sort of personal vendetta by JCP&L. Grow up and stop complaining!!

Mattie, I want to first say that my heart goes out to you for several reasons: I am sorry about your loss. I can't imagine how devastating that must be for yourself and her family. I also want to commend your strength and generosity in this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you Susan, that's very kind of you. We feel very luck to have only been out of power for 3.5 days. I am also thankful that I was also able to accommodate some of my now-homeless relatives. Holiday city had no flooding at all. We were *very* fortunate - this time.

Dainty, thank you for your generous offer. That was very kind of you.... <3

All of the streets around us in Point have power except for ours. I am not complaining because my family is safe and sound staying with friends. Our prayers go out to others who lost everything.

Red Cedar Street, Toms River still has no power. Downed pole with a transformer in my neighbor's driveway. They have kids, and that thing lying there gives me the creeps. Jcpl workers finally arrived yesterday, but we were told they were just babysitting it because someone got electrocuted by a similar one Saturday. They mentioned this wouldn't be fixed by Wednesday like the jcpl representatives are telling us. I am patient and I am blessed to have a home. Unfortunately, there are two families on my block with VERY young special needs children.

I live in Manalapan off Symmes Road. We lost power at 2 PM on Monday 29th of October - way before the storm hit the area. WE still do not have power as of Nov. 5th 1 PM. Storm was bad and areas were hit hard, but in our area we did not see much destruction - few tree branches were lost but no major trees fell nor were any power lines down in our area. So I am wondering what is keeping us all from getting power until now...If you see power come back, please announce it here

Substations are down, and there are crews workign on them. I saw them. There was an email sent from the township:make sure you are on this list!Streets Without Power

We are maintaining a list of streets in the Township that still do not have power so that we can inform JCP&L of the outages and then obtain status updates regarding when power will be restored.

If you still do not have power and your street is NOT listed below, please call (732) 446-3200 and let the Township know that your power is not restored. You can also email storm@mtnj.org with this information.

Emerson Lane Berkeley heights and Hillcrest Ave Warren will be out for a long time it appears. Crews don't have the specialist technology they need to do the work. We heard from one crew it may go past Saturday into next week.

Which part of Colonial Oaks is your house? Just talked to my wife as I am currently out of the country. Friends of ours one on the east side of Fern Road north of Candle Lane is still without power. Another who lives in Indian Forest is also without power. A third one who lives in the new development across from the Acme supermarket off of Ryders Lane is also without power. But power was restored on Valley Forge Drive where we live since noon Sunday and it has not been interrrupted. Another friend of ours who lives on the other side of Rt. 18 on Buck Road (near Gladstone St.) had power restored before last Saturday.

Saw the first lineman today from JCPL since we lost power 8 days ago. he was just looking and said they were working in the area. Very nice guy out by himself.

I told him I appreciated the work they are doing and know from press releases that JCPL is working 24 hours a day and he told me "No, we are only working 16 hours a day".

I have seen more crews from out of state than I have from here. It is very frustrating.

"JCP&L" is actually working 24 hours a day -- with rotating shifts for workers. I think what the lineman you spoke to meant was that they are working 16 hr shift -- "doubles". They (linemen) are working their butts off -- I hope people aren't taking any frustration out on those guys :(

I live on Clarence Street and 70 % of the street has power but not 7 houses on the Eastern side of the sreet. There is power on Warren and power acrooss the street but not here. PSE&G swears that ther are trucks in the area but I just drove over 50 blocks between South Ave and Shackamaxon and there is not one truck anywhere to be found. I'm headed to City Hall since this is just a load of BULL!!!

Reading comprehension folks - the article is "TELL US: Has Your Power Been Restored?" and readers were directed to leave their answer in the comments section. That is why the people here complaining about their power. Go be judgmental somewhere else and while you're out, go volunteer at one of the shelters or donation drop offs.

People shouldn't confuse the JCP&L admin and customer service jerks with the linemen on duty. They are working as hard as can be.

That being said, there's been nothing in Cliffwood Beach since the storm and there are still snapped poles and downed wires crossing the street at the waterfront. Nothing has been touched yet and it could be far longer than the estimated repair date. Heard the same applies to Laurence Harbor.

Heard rumors of generator started fires in Cliffwood Beach effecting some homes last night. Anyone know if this is true? Haven't been in town since early last evening and worried.

Summit. Out since Mon. evening. No damage in our general area, but no JCPL presence.
I know resources are spread thin right now, but my issues are with town leadership (or lack of). We receive no communication from mayor Dickson, or town hall. Only info available is what's posted on town website. All vague and outdated.
I don't trust JCP&L restoration stats and projections. According to them, and town hall who parrot those figures as fact, roughly 1/3 of Summit has been restored, which I know not to be true.
I have seen one JCP&L truck in our area in 5 days. Appeared to be surveying.
I can understand being lower on the scale of priorities, but have enough integrity to let me know the real deal. I can deal with the truth, but can't tolerate the level of complacency I'm seeing from town officials. I really miss our recently departed mayor.

There was an Ohio Power truck here 3 days ago, it looked around for 5 minutes and left. Haven't seen a crew since from JCP&L or anyone else. But guess what? Town Hall is open on Monday 11/12 so that we can all pay our taxes.

Ray, we have a friend see that got his power back give us a generator, a lantern and heater. Then our church loaned us a generator to provide to a neighbor. Another neighbor loaned us saws for our trees and still another came over and helped with the work. An electrician is assisting with our downed lines. No one has at any time tried to gouge us. As I type this, I am sitting in Espresso Joe's in Keyport, who has allowed us to recharge our phones and laptops, and provided free coffee on Saturday while we watched tv for news.

Area on East Road, Highview Circle and east are restored as of Sunday night
Areas from Red Bank to Whole foods restored with gas stations working if they have gas
Leonardo still down
My daughter works for Freehold Township and they just got power today in her office.

My friend has a son who works for PSE&G. One of the men was electrocuted. They were able to revive him but he will lose an arm. Her son is saying people just don't realize how dangerous the job is. They are out in it. Lots of people far from home, don't know the way around, yet here trying to help in the worst of circumstances. I am thankful for their presence.
