Three Teens Charged With Arson of Cars Stolen From East Dover

Toms River Police say one vehicle left ablaze in Brown's Woods, the other in Little League woods

Toms River Police arrested three teens on charges of arson and vehicle theft, after two separate incidents found stolen vehicles lit ablaze and abandoned in the woods.

Toms River Detective James Magovern arrested Armere Caruso, 18, of Dolly Road, and Daniel Sanchez, 19, of Coolidge Avenue in Toms River and charged them with two counts each of vehicle theft and aggravated arson. Both are lodged in Ocean County Jail on $50,000, no 10 percent option. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said a third individual, a 15 year old juvenile, was also charged with one count of vehicle theft and arson.

Mastronardy said a 2007 Honda was stolen from a Nevada Drive home's driveway on Dec. 30 and found in the woods across from the Little League fields on Windsor Avenue.

"Investigation found that the keys were removed from the unlocked car two weeks prior to the theft and that the suspects came back and then stole the vehicle and attempted to set in on fire when it became stuck in the woods," said Mastronardy.

A second vehicle arson was reported last weekend, when Toms River Fire Company No. 1 & 2 responded to a fire in Brown's Woods, on Washington Street, Mastronardy said.

A 2010 Ford Flex was found ablaze on the Brown Property early Friday morning after police and Toms River firefighters were called to a brush fire there, police said.

The vehicle, which was reportedly left unlocked, was stolen from a Hazelwood Road residence and then driven to the Brown Property, where it was set on fire and completely destroyed.

Police said that in the separate incidents, which were about two weeks apart, the teens allegedly stole the two vehicles and drove them to the secluded locations. While the East Dover woods incident was contained to the vehicle, the Brown's Woods one escalated to a brush fire.

Mastronardy said the arrests were made Tuesday.

I am very happy to hear no 10%... make it as hard as possible for them to get out of Jail... let them spend some time in there thinking what they did wrong. Parents need to step up to the plate and start parenting what they brought into this world !!!

JasperDolphin, way to be on top of things, this topic was sooooo 3 months ago.
And contrary, my kids are grown, hard working, married, and have kids of their own living respectable lives BECAUSE they had parents that rode their asses, showed tough love and made sure they stayed on a straight path, without worrying when it was going to be 'their' time to enjoy life. No need to reply, just defending MY parenting skills !

Where are the parents? The car in Brown's Woods was set on fire in the early hours of the morning. Why weren't they home in bed?

Where are the parents?
Well, let's see... The article states that Armere was 18, and the other kid was 19. Shouldn't MATTER where the parents are, these guys are "adults".
At any rate, Armere was adopted.
I know this kid, he *belongs* in jail....maybe Bubba will ask him to the Valentine's Day dance.

To those that were so quick to judge and throw out false accusations ... where are your comments now? Michael S. – obviously not Jewish Lightning. Kevin O. – payments could be made and were current. Steve D. – Stolen??? Yes!!!!!! Michael E. – The THIEVES were the dummies… the police DID care about it. Fire reported at 5:30am on Saturday – suspect(s) apprehened before end of business on Monday.. Not too bad for a police dept that doesn’t care – wouldn’t you agree?? Great job TRPD….

Touche' Flex owner!
To NoName...."in this day and age" if they really wanted the car it wouldn't have mattered whether it was locked or not! The fact remains these kids came onto private property to begin with. Oh wait maybe you think Flex Owner should have put a gate/fence around their property to keep people out too ?
Many years ago I had a 6 month old car, that was locked with an alarm system, stolen from shopping mall parking lot. What was the problem then ? Huh ? I shouldn't have been in the shopping mall ?

Flex owner, I am so glad you have written in to defend yourself. I also have on time payments and absolutely loved my minivan that I just got in April. Shame on these people who are so willing to throw judgement around on people they don't even know. I am a stand up citizen who has been born and raised in TR. NEVER have had a problem in this town and now find myself afraid to go to sleep at night. AMAZING job to TRPD for their help. I hope they continue to get the TRASH out of this wonderful town.

Flex owner and Honda owner. I am so glad you are here to tell your story. I am sorry you had to defend yourselves. When I read the story I never assumed it was anything but foul play.

Steve D- you have no class. I sure do hope nothing terrible happens to you. The media states keys were in the car- not true in my case. However the point remains - some degenerate low life with nothing better to do came into MY yard, took something that belongs to ME and destroyed it. The THIEVES didn't get anything out of this senseless act except a joyride and a high. I, on the other hand, am left fighting w insurance and trying to convince my kids that we ARE safe. The last thing I need on my plate is a need for defending myself against someone who wants us to feel worse about an ALREADY BAD situation. THANKS FOR NOTHING!

Honestly, if someone stole my car because I left it unlocked, I think I'd be more mad at myself than the person that committed the crime. Like seriously, how dumb/cocky do u have to be to not lock your car at night? It doesn't matter that people aren't suppose to steal so u "shouldn't have to", the truth is we all know people still do it so u need to guard your fucking shit. I mean really, I live in seaside. Do u think I ever go, "hmm, people aren't supposed to steal or be on my property so my car should be fine unlocked" --- NO, cause that's a car theft waiting to happen. So in reality, everyone involved in this (and yes that means u car owners) made a bad decision. The decision by the boys was just worse as it will most likely ruin their lives. But no one on here should be happy or grateful that those boys are in jail. It's never a good day for society when young adults have fallen on such a bad path that they wind up in jail. It's a tragedy.

Let me get this straight 'thehardtruth'....you are actually saying its the car owners fault that these young adults are in jail? We left our cars unlocked and so that sent a message to these teens to go ahead and break into our cars and steal and start fires in them? REALLY?
Someone steals from you regardless what the circumstances are and your saying its a tragedy they got caught and put in jail? Lets just give him a slap on the wrist and say No No, you can't do that ! Ruin their lives ? Maybe they should have thought about that BEfore they did the crime!
Let me tell you I was robbed thru NO FAULT of my own.... and the person who did it is VERY lucky they weren't found bc JAIL would not have been good enough!
Heh.... I hope you are never on the side of being the victim.

I didn't say it is the car owners' faults that these young adults are in jail. I'm saying they made themselves vulnerable to car theft by leaving their car unlocks. And I do believe jail is the appropriate consequence for what these young people did. I just don't think its appropriate for people to be celebrating the fact that there are essentially "kids" in jail. (and yes, I do consider 18-21 still almost kids because they still haven't matured fully at that age. and if you don't agree with that, I think its still notable that they are fairly young). No child is born a thief, murderer, or any other type of "bad person". Something in his/her environment, whether it be a parent, friend(s), school, etc, caused and allowed him/her to become that way. And that is the tragedy---the fact that these boys, and any young person in jail, is in there because at some point (or maybe at even several points in their life) someone just did not care.
