UPDATE: Toms River HS North Adds Beds to Shelter, HS East Opening Shelter at 9 a.m.
Non-Toms River residents can still proceed to Pinelands Regional shelter
Update: At 10:13 p.m., TRHSN has added more beds. Toms River Office of Emergency Management will open a second shelter at TRHS East until 9 a.m. Monday. Residents are being directed to HS North until the second shelter opens.
The original article has been edited to reflect the change:
A regional hurricane shelter at Toms River High School North's Pine Belt Arena is near capacity Sunday night. Toms River High School East will open at 9 a.m. Monday Oct. 29.
Previously, TROEM announced Toms River High School East was to open and accept residents. Toms River OEM Director Paul Daley said for the time being, Toms River North is still accepting evacuees and Toms River East will hold off opening as a shelter Sunday night.
At 9 a.m. Monday, Toms River High School East will open and is scheduled to have around 250 beds available, said Toms River Regional Schools spokesperson Tammi Millar.
Toms River High School East is at 1225 Raider Way, Toms River, 08753.
The Pine Belt Arena has more than 250 evacuees using the site on Old Freehold Road in Toms River.
Daley said Toms River High School East has limited resources and should it open as a shelter would accept Toms River residents.
For Hurricane Irene, Toms River North and East opened, and then a third shelter was used at Toms River Intermediate North as the storm heightened last year.
Evacuees from outside the area can still go to Pinelands Regional, another regional Hurricane Sandy shelter in Ocean County.
Bus service from Ortley Beach A&P is expected to resume tomorrow. The barrier island communities are under a 4 p.m. evacuation order for Sunday, Oct. 28.
A series of closures and cancellations for Toms River have been announced, here.
Toms River has activated its Hurricane Emergency Hotline for 4 p.m. Sunday and onward: 732-818-9901.

Why Can't Someone Find a Spot for ALL of the People in Tent City on Cedarbridge Avenue and Clover Street in LAKEWOOD? This is a crying shame that LAKEWOOD hasn't done a damned thing to get these poor people out of harm's way.

That's because the people in tent city are NOT in there congregation...the chosen people , chose only their own to help !!

Actually the people in tent city had offers to use places. My temple was set to open for them but we never heard back from the reverend. They were calling temple members asking for volunteers to stay at the temple to help. From what I have heard other temples have also offered them shelter. Whether they got out I don't know.

Thank you. From all the judgmental comments on the page, no one said thank you to you and your temple for the work you did on behalf of those residents.

My comment didn't post, gonna try again, so if it is a duplicate, I apologize.
SIs and family live on Vaughn Ave, in Toms River. Is high school east opened? If so, can people go to just charge their phones? If not, is there anywhere they can go to charge their phones?
Any info is greatly appreciated!
