Folks, Chief Mastronardy is offering you excellent advice. After all, this is election season and a long-time county incumbent who encouraged the unemployed to get off their lazy butts and get a job instead of living high on the hog with the $400 a week he doles out to them may have become an overnight inspiration to them. Some of these lazy bums may have taken his message and reputation of strong-armed contributions to heart, and have gone out to help make up for the faltering collections this official is currently experiencing. I understand the golden carpet that he normally rides through campaign season has been grounded. My thoughts are that this car robbing activity will decline after November 8.

On a more serious note, I work with people that see no reason to lock their doors on their home or cars. They feel people are going to break in anyway no matter what. I certainly can't understand that logic. Motion sensor lights near your driveway, will absolutely deter potential thieves from getting near your car. It is so easy to lock a door, I don't understand why people don't do it.

Locking your cars - good idea. Not keeping loose change, dollar bills, wallets, jewelry, any form of ID, or anything of VALUE in your car is a better idea. These petty thieves are not ripping out radios or navigation systems... they are stealing items they find left in the car that they can grab quickly and pocket easily. My car got robbed a year ago, (I forgot to roll up the window) and all they got was a couple single dollar bills I had tucked into the visor, and a few old music CDs. They LOOKED everywhere- console, glove-box, etc, but they didn't get much. Kinda glad the window was down and they didn't jimmy the door or break a window....

With all this crime going on, where are the beefed up patrols? I should pass by *at least* 1 police cruiser on my way home from work, no?

J that's what I don't get. The only thing of"value"i was keeping in my van was my prescription glasses and sunglasses, also prescription. Useless to mostbut then there ARE crystals on the sunglasses.theyre older than I care to admit...8 yrs, yes I get my kids new ones yrly, but anyway I brought them inside n now I can't find them.great. I love having to change how we live for scumbags. Especially since I'm already security conscious, my parents were raised in the bronx and we moved to suburbs but we always locked up. Now I can't even keep coupon book in the car.sad.

Rachel, no offense, but do you really think they want to steal someone's old granny prescription glasses? LOL You already aren't keeping anything of (real) value in the car, so why complain about changing your life for scumbags? Leave the glasses in the car where you can find them.... you don't need to change, you're doing fine. :-)

My car was locked and still got robbed, it will help to tell people to lock thier car but its doesnt solve the crime issues. I mean why are thier like 3 cop cars always at the wawa, talk about a waste of resources.

In my opinion, priorites have to change for the PD. Seems like they care about everything else but the stuff that is affecting us everyday.

I understand there was another "break in" through an unlocked garage door yesterday. I don't see the story on The Patch, but why are people still leaving doors to their homes and cars open?

Well the point i's whether my eleven hundred dollars 2 pr of glasses that I can't drive without or coupon books that cost me eighty five or my 40dollar car phone charger, my stuff should be safe in my property. My son left his bike out a while back for the first time unbeknownst to me and it was taken that one time he forgot.all I'm saying is it sucks,i just wana live and let live. You say nothing has affected me but My friend was robbed of over two hundred dollars and some personal electronics and thats a half block away and we have neighbors with countless arrests for alleged theft of expensive and cheaper items right within my street. Looked like a perfectly decent middle class neighborhood, paid top dollar the yr before thr real estate mkt crashed and yeah I have a right to be unhappy here, trust me.
