Toms River Police Investigate Burglary, Car Accident
Police seek answers behind forced-entry burglary, motor vehicle collision
The Toms River Township Police Department, through Officer Pascal Gambardella, is currently investigating a burglary that occurred on Tuesday morning in a home located on River Terrace, in the Silver Ridge section of Toms River.
Police noted that the residents of the home reported the burglary themselves, and that the theft occurred sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Chief Michael Mastronardy confirmed that an unknown perpetrator entered the residence by forcing open the front door and stole over $1000 in jewelry from the home’s bedroom. Detective John Anderson of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department is also assisting in the burglary investigation.
- Nicole Francis, a 17-year-old resident of Toms River, was issued a traffic signal violation summons by Traffic Safety Corporal Shan McHugh, subsequent to an investigation into a two-car motor vehicle accident which occurred at the intersection of Vaughn and Windsor avenues at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Dolores Miller, 70, of Toms River, was heading eastbound on Windsor Avenue, and was crossing the intersection of Vaughn and Windsor while driving a 2011 Hyundai. At that time, she was struck by Francis, who was driving a 2005 Toyota that was directed southbound on Vaughn Avenue, police said. Miller’s Hyundai struck the curb, and then rolled onto its side. Both Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 & No. 2 responded to the scene, extricating Miller from her car, and helping to secure her transport to Community Medical Center.

Did the police check the driver's phone log? Not the 70-year-old's!

Isn't there a traffic light on Vaughn and Windsor? Some one ran a yellow or red light....?

Yes, that's why the 17yo was issued a traffic signal violation summons.

Sounds to me at any rate, the 17 Y. O. had to be going pretty fast to hit that poor woman that hard, to flip her car. Obviously a speeding ticket sould have been given ato her as well.

Maybe the 70 year old ran/didn't see the red light? Just the other day on 571 at the Home Depot entrance, a "senior" went right through a red light without ever slowing down. I guess she never saw the red light.

*Mandatory* re-testing - every two years - for *EVERYONE* 66 and older....
that's what we need in this area where we are - literally surrounded - by retirement villages. And I mean on-road testing, not written tests, or just eye exams.

I agree with Mattie, It is very dangerous with the elderly drivers. My 17 year old was hit from behind by an elderly man at a light and he had no idea he even hit her.. Mandatory testing is a MUST ! Its a very sad situation , but a very important one.

Oh come on...your son (thankfully he is ok) could of been hit by anyone not paying attention. Yes, testing should be done for "some" elderly persons. How about also testing every 10 years for EVERYONE. Not sure of the percentage, but I am not sure I agree that most accidents are just the elderly...are they?

Raise the driving age to 21. Teen drivers are way too irresponsible. Drinking, speeding, texting, and driving with multiple other minors in the car...'nuff said.

Sorry to open this can of worms, but I notice a majority of "soccer mom" types on the cells and texting whenever I'm on the road. And they're the worst tailgaters! The kids have their age and lack of common sense to blame, but once you're over 25 or so, you should have more brains.

I totally agree! You think with their "precious cargo" they would slow down a bit, right?

I drive my grandchildren to school, the moms are on the phone and the Kids are not buckled up.. It is not just teens and old people! Everyday I see people of all ages going through red lights, not yellow!!! We need to have more police out there to give tickets.
