One of the busiest roads in Toms River is also a state road: Route 37. The east-west corridor is the major thorofare from the Parkway to Seaside and points throughout town.

Here's a view of the highway, whether you are grateful for it or find the commercial strip unsightly, or whether it's just simply the way you get to where you need to go — it's still classic Toms River.

The Route 37 corridor is our featured section of town in this Picture This photo gallery. To share your own photos, click the Pics & Clips tab above.

The "eyesore to the shore" photos are for Patch's future stories about traffic accidents and such, but a true picture would be given by photos of the dilapidated stores allowed to exist by the township code-enforcement dept. That's what visitors remember as a first impression of Toms River and what residents see every time they're on Rt. 37. Fine the absentee landlords and clean up that eyesore!

I think there is a lot more to Route 37 than what is shown here. Most of these pictures are in a range of a few blocks and most just show the back of cars. Not very interesting at all.

why can't the town (or county) do something about the abandoned buildings on 37? There must be a record of ownership. Why not go after them? I would bet there are taxes owed. Just one eyesore brings down an entire area. We live in such a beautiful part of NJ; let's keep it nice.

I agree with you Barbara. The building at the corner of 37 & Fischer and The one next to it that are boarded up are eyesores. The old hess station next to Good Friend Electric too. Tear them down after being boarded up after couple of years!!!
