With an open container in the car to boot !!
Let's see, I'm drunk, gotta go somewhere, so I better bring my drink with me.
Bring on the new technology that a car won't start if it senses any trace of alcohol.

This is just disappointing on many levels. I have kids in their 20s that grew up in a school system (Brick) that was part of the Reagan Administrations teachings of "Just Say No" to drug use and were Junior members of MADD where they learned about the perils of drinking & driving. Both of my children call me for a ride home if they found themselves at a party where there was alcohol. I just pick them up and we get their car the next day, simply common sense, and I commend them every time they ask for me for my help.
It's very disappointing to see a 28yo not practicing this simple approach that was ingrained in them from grammar school right through to high school. I hope the driver she hit is OK and that she has learned a very valuable lesson that didn't involve some innocent person losing their life.

It's sad that a phone call to a family member or a friend could have avoided an innocent person being hit. The problem is that they always think they are okay to drive.

The article said that she was charged with "assault by auto." Does this mean she hit the guy on purpose? If so, it's not just a case of being drunk. It's rage.

I can see most of the charges, but how is it assault? Did she intentionally hit him? Just wondering because assault charge seems a bit excessive...and before the hate comments start coming, I do not condone her drinking and driving.

THE INOCENT PERSON IS NOT SO INOCENT, HE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT B Y BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY INTO TRAFFIC. i DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING ABOUT HIM BEING CITED FOR CARELESS DRIVEING. I DON'T CONDONE DRINKING AND DRIVING AND I ALSO DON'T CONDONE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY WITHOUT LOOKING.

take a vallum Bill & take the caps lock off! Now calm down if this was the case the PD would have sighted him for it. Most likely he had backed fully out of his driveway & was proceeding fwd when the drunk hit him. At least what I get out of the article from investigation

It's legal wording & there are degrees of "assault", New Jersey Title 2C, you can look it up on online. In this case, it's basically a dwi accident w/injuries.

I'm sure it is a law, and words can be easily misconstrued. When I see assault, I think of it as an intentional action. Which I'm sure in most instances is not the case. Drunk or not, it's still called an accident. T
