Toms River Woman's Home Burglarized While She Was In Paralympics
The suspect stole cash and jewelry from Cheryl Leitner's Toms River home
From The Associated Press: Police are trying to find the person who burglarized a Toms River woman's home while she was in London competing in the Paralympics.
The suspect stole cash and jewelry from Cheryl Leitner's Toms River home. Also missing were things the three-time track and field competitor earned at the Paralympic games in Beijing and Sydney, Australia.
The 29-year-old quadriplegic wouldn't specify what the objects are because the investigation is ongoing. However, Leitner told the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/PlmwMl) they are things she could pass on when she has children so they could be proud of her.
Leitner's family left for London on Aug. 27 and her mother returned on Sunday to find the home ransacked.

Alert all the local pawn shops, so they can hold the drug-addicted burglar for the cops.

This is really sad. When is it time to admit the Police in TR are inadequate? Thieves are running wild.

You can't have a cop at everyone's home making sure nothing happens. We all have to take extra measures to protect ourselves and our belongings. We have to watch out for our neighbors and they have to watch out for us. Police can't be everywhere, but I'll bet that they do catch this thief.

When is it time to admit the parents have failed? Hell, I'll be the first to says he NJEA is corrupt, but good students suffer when they're forced to sit in the same classrooms with drug addicts, tyrants, and the challenged.

TR police dept. is under-staffed. Contact your mayor and council members (by e-mail, phone or attending public meetings) to demand adequate money for hiring cops instead of building the politicians' pet projects.

I agree with the above posters. It is NOT the cops fault, they are under-staffed. Also, the laws and sentencing guidelines in New Jersey need to be tougher. Look at the kid from Beachwood who burglarized the Police Chiefs house. He was caught, released on bail, and got caught the next day doing the same thing in Brick. They need to lockup these losers in a 3x3" cell and let them rot. None of this playing basketball all day in Ocean County jail and then being released after a week or so!

Understaffed???? I hope you are kidding. We have too many officers. Take a ride by a Wawa or DD in the morning and tell me how many you see

And don't think for one second these criminals don't know that the townships are understaffed. They are counting on it. Ocean County has really gone down.
i don't get it??

Can't blame the police...not their fault the town won't hire new officers to replace the retiring ones...ask LAKEWOOD how that has worked out.

TR has one of the largest police forces in the entire state. The problem is they are inadequate. The criminals are running wild because they know TR police are terrible.

Halpha2 is wrong: Romney-Ryan budget would lay off cops across the country. Criminals are voting for them!

To "Change TR", well, TR cops just made several heroin and warrant arrests and seize stolen gun at Rodeway Inn. GETTING BAD GUYS OFF THE STREETS. I guess they don't just hang out in Wawa all day now huh? Just because you see them on their break doesn't mean they arent out there for the rest of their shift keeping us safe.

Dear Change_TR,
What planet do you live on ? You might want to get a job yourself. You have no idea of what goes on every day in Toms River. Not everything makes the newspaper or there wouldn't be room to write anything else. Toms River has one of the finest, well trained professional police departments in the State.
Sounds to me that you've been arrested before and if not, at least stopped and not allowed to skip, most likely because you couldn't keep your mouth from running off. I have 3 suggestions for you....
1) get out of bed before dinner time
2) stay off your computer
3) get a job
Have a nice day !

I'm a Senior Manager at a top 10 Fortune 500 company....but go on you're amusing me.
Sounds to me you either are a cop or your related to one. The stats don't lie, TR crime has risen to the point its now well above the NJ average.

The bigger question is why are you taking it so personally that I critique the police department? Could it be you're a cop or related to one?
I spend close to 20K a year on taxes. I expect better.

I know big shot, you work for a fortune 500 company selling shoes and pay 20k a year in taxes. I guess that's how you define yourself. Take that job away and you are nothing. Get over yourself.
I am not a cop and not related to one. I do know the size of the Town. I do know that those guys that kill cops don't just live in Camden and Trenton, they live in Lakewood...ring a bell numb nuts ?.. You think Toms River is immune to that ? We'll ask you after something happens to one of your family members.
I can't stop thinking about how important you think you really are. Obviously single, because no woman would put up with your bragging nonsense. Probably not true anyway.

You spell with the same efficiency that the dept operates.. Not really though.., I am just a little upset that after calling 911 not one cop was available to run through the drive through at Dunkin Donuts and personally deliver a pumpkin spice coffee. The coupon expired TODAY!! You know what? I can't even blame the police! I have forty people that live on this street and not one person knocked on my door this morning and even asked if I might want a cup!! This whole town sucks!
