Chris Nolze and Scott Zabelski were honored for the Sandy recovery efforts through proclamations presented by Toms River Councilman John Sevastakis.

Toms River officials honored two locals who have provided continued support to those affected by Superstorm Sandy.

High School South student Chris Nolze, organizer of Chris's Fight For A Cure Foundation, and Blue Wave Printing owner Scott Zabelski were honored by the township with proclamations last week.

In addition to his foundation, Nolze held a toy drive this past holiday season for those affected by the storm. He is working on an Easter event for affected families in Seaside Heights and encouraged the community to participate.

Zabelski thanked the community for putting their trust into his business's fundraising efforts, which have raised about $500,000 so far.

"I just started small and it snowballed with the support of everyone," he said.

I am always curious how much $ these local companies are making off of Sandy, or other disasters, when only a "portion" of the proceeds go to some innocuous charity.

I give my money to registered 501 charities who have to report where the money
goes and how it is spent.

I know for a fact that these places are legit. The reason they say "a portion of proceeds" is because they have to cover the cost of the product. You can't expect them to print hundreds/thousands of shirts and not reimburse themself the cost of the product. THAT is what it means. Blue Wave is a fabulous organization and a great family.

No offence but unless you are a registered 501 charity there is no way to know. This is just a list on the internet. I am not doubting Blue Wave, per se, I am sure he is a great guy, but how much profit does he make on the shirts? What % of the profits actually go to charities or deserving people. Registered charities are required to report to IRS and can be verified. All I am saying is be careful, and it is safer to donate to registered charities if you care about where your money goes.

RPtoTR you are a moron. Mind your business. I doubt you donate anything to anyone. THIS IS A BUSINESS that stepped up to help NOT a "charity" they are using their business to donate ANYTHING they can and doing a heck of a job. Go b!tch somewhere else!

voiceofreason WOW must have hit a nerve. Afraid of a discussion?
If you are not questioning or concerned about businesses and charities that are profiting off of Sandy, then you simply are not paying attention, or reading the Patch.
I do not know Blue Wave and I am not questioning motives, as I stated in a previous post, I am sure he is a great guy. After all the town gave him an award and we know we can trust them, right?

Didn't hit a nerve. Just can't stand reading ignorant comments from uninformed people, like you.

he has donated 500,000 to date for Sandy relief. It just takes a few moments to look it up. I donate to this cause, having been displaced myself. I haven't benefited from his charity and don't plan too, I think its great what he has done. He still has a business to run after all, if he makes anything at all, it may be minimal.

If Nj politicians were as carring as Scott we would have no corruption and an this state would prosper . The government in Washington should take advice from Scott how to run things squeaky clean .

this is a good place to also thank Club Metro USA in the silverton section of toms river.. opened 2 days after the hurricane, they provided hot showers to not only their members but any human!.. along with filtered water to drink, even the national guard crew got to clean up b4 catching some if any sleep @ silverton firehouse.. so if you are shopping for a fitness club, keep them in mind..
