Traffic Diversion In Place at Intersection of Hooper Avenue, Church Road
Traffic light malfunction being repaired
A malfunctioning traffic light caused some traffic diversions but no major problems at the intersection of Church Road and Hooper Avenue on Saturday night, police said.
The signal began cycling improperly, not holding its pattern for the correct length of time, Toms River police said.
As a result, they set up the diversion, preventing traffic from making left turns onto Hooper Avenue. Cars approaching Hooper from Church Road were forced to turn right and go south on Hooper, while those coming from Kettle Creek Road -- what Church becomes when it crosses Hooper -- were forced to turn right and head north on Hooper into Brick.
An Ocean County road crew was on scene by 9 p.m. repairing the faulty signal and traffic was expected to return to its normal patterns fairly quickly.
It is unknown what caused the signal to malfunction.

The signals also malfunctioned one day last week -- with all lights blinking continuously. Then you can realize how many vehicles pass through that traffic bottleneck every hour. Widen the roads before that proposed shopping mall adds to the problems.

Traffic has always been a problem in Silverton. Put Fisher Blvd through to Bay Ave and see how fast the problems go away. On.....I forgot.....the pine frogs live there :(

I thought the Pine Frogs and Other Critturs problem was solved, Kean University has a building and parking lots up there?

Part of the daily Hooper Brick Blvd. mess is due to Parkway drivers exiting at Rt. 70 and using Fischer to avoid most of Rt. 37. Add an exit around Church Rd. or North Bay and connect to Fischer. Also widen Hooper between the Silverton cemeteries (before the mall is built) and finally widen the Hooper-Church-Kettle Creek intersection for all the OC college traffic.

If I drive the parkway south to come home to Toms River, why would I go all of the way to Rte 37 when I live off of Fischer. I use exit 88 as that is most convenient. It has nothing to do with avoiding Rte 37. For 20 years they have talked about extending Fischer Blvd. I doubt I will see it in my lifetime.,
