Two Accidents At Fischer Intersection Within Minutes
Teen bicyclist as well as a motorcylist sent to hospital
Two accidents both near Cattus Island Boulevard on Fischer Boulevard occurred within minutes of each other last night, sending a 15 year-old bicyclist and a 22 year-old motorcyclist to the hospital.
In the first incident at 8:20 p.m., a 15 year-old boy was riding his bicycle on Fischer Boulevard when he collided with a motor vehicle, said Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy. Information on which direction the boy was riding or other information on the incident was not available.
“This is still under investigation, we are working on the details,” Mastronardy said.
The teen was transported to Community Medical Center on Route 37 for treatment, said the chief.
At 8:21 p.m. the same location had another accident, Mastronardy said.
The second incident was in the northbound lanes of Fischer, when Dan Dickerson, 24, of East Stroudsberg, Penn. was stopped at the traffic light. His 1999 Dodge was struck from behind by a motorcyclist, police said.
Police said Christopher Moore, 22 of Toms River was traveling northbound and ran into the rear the vehicle as it was stopped at the red light. Moore was taken by Toms River Police EMS to Community Medical Center for treatment.
At 9:30 p.m. investigators were at the scene still. The area is near the entrance to Cattus Island Park and a side entrance to the BellCrest Plaza, as well as the residential neighborhood behind it.
Investigating these accidents are Traffic Safety Officer Stephan Schwartz and Officer Joshua Pedalino.
Earlier this week, the intersection was the site of a collision between a motor vehicle and an illegally parked trailer. At 1:30 a.m. Tuesday a driver rode up into the trailer and overturned as the trailer was unloading cargo and blocking the right lane of Fischer Boulevard southbound near Cattus Island Boulevard.
The three incidents all occurred within 100 yards of each other, according to police. That stretch of Fischer Boulevard has the turning lane leading up to the traffic light at Cattus, plus the intersection of Hazelwood farther south, surrounding the BellCrest Plaza.
