Great job. Now can we see that same effort in the town of Ortley Beach?

They were missing out on a lot of foodstamp income,get it open.

I am glad it's open again but, this store has needed a facelift since I worked there, 15 years ago. I guess all the talk of building better doesn't count when it comes to this ugly building. It is the first thing you see when coming over the bridge, maybe the 80's look could have gone away?

at the rate the OB recovery is going ,there wont be many customers this summer.....sad.

How ironic that Councilman John Sevastakis showed up because he and the rest of the dead wood TR Government have done absolutely nothing to aid in the recovery! In fact they had to be shamed to do anything like get portable toilets, street sweeping etc. They're a bunch of zero's!

Ortley Resident -- the latest gimmick is you CANNOT get a permit if you DO NOT sign a legal contract stating you AGREE to raise your house within four years...guess alot of follks will be rebuilding without permits! We live in America! They are holding our homes hostage unless we cowtow to their demands! No one can rebuld anytime soon --let them rebuild the boardwalk and A&P, but the residents of OB won't be back because we are NOT ALLOWED to rebuild unless we follow new rules everyday!!

I had a tr building inspector drop by on a Sunday to say hello. He then went up the road, looking in all the homes. My brother and i were working on our home, thankfully for me, 2 feet of water, house is in ok shape. Good luck building without a permit.

Thank GOD its reopening, living on the Barrier Island these days is like living on a Barren Island, very hard to get anything. We were in the store around 4 PM the day of the storm and we said to ourselves the water will never get this far, How wrong we were. I'm going out now to fill my basket

Ok, great. Just so u people know about a&p. They purchased pathmark stores a few years ago and fired alot of people. They fired hundreds of food haulers (truck drivers). With out any notice they lost vacation days sick pay, the list goes on and on. Next they went bankrupt and cheated all of the venders out of a ton of money. They cheated plumbers,electricians, HVAC contractors and life long employees out of millions of dollars. And most people have no idea how filthy the a&p stores are. They make the store look good for the customers but it's an eye trick The stores are filthy. And I do have personal first hand experience. And no I do not work as an employee of a&p but as a contractor I have unlimited access to hundreds of there stores and they are Sht holes. STAY AWAY FROM A&P . Total dirt bags in every way.

She is off on the 5 months (less) that that the A&P has been closed and the 26 years (more) that the A&P has been present in Ortley. Who is the fact checker for her speeches?? You would think she would catch the first on her own if she previewed the speech. Homeless taxpaying families that are waiting for insurance settlements after FOUR (4) months are not amused.

Let's see proof of the required permits for the a&p rebuild. I am positive they don't have half the permits they need. And it will interesting to see if they made the restrooms ada compliant. That is required when a store has a major remodel. It's in the plumbing code.

A&p is a scum bag company.

5 months ago, Sandy wasn't even a glimpse in my father's eye. Perhaps, the Lt. Gov. was wishing it was 5 months ago, think of how much more money they could have scammed us for.

She was there FOR the ribbon cutting, she has no idea what the " Little People" are going through , they are no part of her State GOP friends who dine out five times a week.....and have house keepers & drivers on the pay roll....what's a toll ??? They charge you to drive on some roads, I had no idea, I'll have to tell the Gov'nr this !!!!

Ok the storm was October 29. October 29 to November 29 is one month. November 29 to December 29 is two. December 29 to January 29 is three and January 29 to February is four. Mea culpa.

I live in Ortley Beach and to see the A&P opened is a very positive symbolic sign to me after spending months driving through the wasteland that Ortley still is for the most part. I don't mind Lt Govs flubbing some factoids. Minor issue to me. I felt a lot of frustration seeing businesses in Lavallette and Seaside open ( Im glad they did) while Ortley's businesses sat in ruins. I am still living in rental housing and I view the opening of A&P as a step back to normalcy for Ortley. To me thats encouraging. I think one of the reasons they opened is that Toms River stayed out of their way and let them get it done. Unfortunately, thats not the case for homeowners. See Michelle V's earlier post on TR permitting...... Just my view.
