Who's the Toms River Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named their person of the year. Tell us who you think should win from our area!

This month, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again.

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But how about locally? Who is the Toms River area’s Person of the Year — the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

Margaret Donnelly director of transportation for TRRS. She handled 2 extremely difficult situations this year with intelligence , grace and compassion : the school bus accident and Sandy. After the accident she was quick to respond in a professional and compassionate way. In addition as the OEM representative Margaret led the way in providing shelter, food, clothing, safety, and empathy for the community during Sandy and its aftermath . Her self sacrifice was recently recognized @ St. Joseph's church where she was voted humanitarian of the year

I agree with Ritacco for worst. Maybe next year's worst will be the OCC Prez after he gets to go join his buddy Ritacco. One can hope anyway.

Can we start 2013 in a positive way? Margaret D. showed us how to come together as a community. That's what TR should be known for!

Mastronardy for Sandy... he ran the show from Island Beach State Park up to Mantoloking.

but.... "for worse"... Ritacco.... but "for better"
he helped expose the BOE for rubber stamping and quid pro quo... which resulted "for the better" in 6 new members on BOE.

Mastronardy spent most of his time posing for pictures and seeking attention in the press as he usually does, he was more a hindrance during and after the storm usually taking credit for the efforts of others, TR Cops can't wait for him to be the Freeholders problem.

Why give the award to one person. I vote for Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.

The ER staff at CMC should at least get an honorable mention for its work during Sandy.

The entire Silverton Fire Department should be considered. From the very start, saving stranded residents, during the event giving shelter, food and clothing and current ongoing efforts to assist the community.

Anyone and everyone who came through the storm and reached out to help a friend or neighbor. Those who pitched in with cleanup and recovery. Volunteers who served meals, worked at shelters, helped with medical needs. All the unsung heros. All the first responders ...... How about Toms River PEOPLE of the year? I think that award should go to the community.

I agree there shouldnt be one person, Although Silverton did help their citizens who needed rescue, so did all the fire companies ems and police officers in town. This is the Toms River Patch, Why not give it to the Toms River Twp Emergency Services in a whole. Police, Fire, and EMS. Do a little story on each squad and department in town, let them tell us of their sleepness nights this year and dedication to the citizens in town.

This may be the right choice…and should be the right choice. Our Toms River Services were out in front and still are to this day. Selling shirts, raising monies, and individual acts putting the community above all, truly deserves an applause also. But I bet if you asked those individuals mentioned here on the Patch, they would agree with the Toms River Services being selected.
