We need to get to Ortley to get what we might have left and board up....don't even know how to start.

Toms River is handling this disgracefully! My kids lives are in my house. How dare you put me on a bus with a trash bag & tell me to take & grab. I'm sure Gov. Christie wouldn't have to do that with his kids. Where is the humanity Chief of Police?

Anxiously waiting to hear when we can get to our house on Ortley Beach. Hopefully to board up before the noreaster comes on Wednesday!!! Doors and windows are gone...want to prevent further damage!

Toms River should be ashamed of themselves. Berkley at least is handling this correctly and providing time and ability to remove personal property. Toms River police has stated there has been no looting, the gas issue is days past. They no longer have a right to keep us out, if they want to use safety, I'm willing to sign a waiver. Every day longer increases damages to property that has survived. This look like a Ritacco operation, are they asking for kickbacks? Access fees? They should be ashamed and residents should rise up and force this issue to a head.

Normandy Beach has had no leads as to storm damages and estimated entry ( to our homes ) dates. We have been homeless for over 7 days and have no idea when we can get in to clean out refrigerators and remove valuables. Someone must have a guesstimate ???

We are trying to get into my parents permanent residence in OB111 to get as much as we can salvage out and to begin the insurance and destruction/rebuild process. The house is in tact. Just had a lot of water.

Everything we own is in our HOME. We are in our 70,s and need time and help to get what we need out. We can't do that with this take and grab plan. Residents should be allowed in first and given a reasonable time to retrieve what they need, Give us some dignity

everyone needs to realize that every effort possible is being utilized to try to get people back to their homes and properties, the devastation and destruction is far worse than anyone can imagine and emergency workers have been working around the clock since the storm doing everything they can to protect what people have left as well as devising plans to let the public come back.. they are not sitting around just preventing you from the islands for their enjoyment the majority of the islands are damaged and sink holes are forming left and right... what happens when you bring your family and a truck and then that truck falls into a sink hole that you could not see? if you have left pets on the island then there are rescue teams in place to get your pets please contact them....otherwise please try to remember that they will let people over when it is SAFE right now that is not the case..they thought it was safe for seaside park today and then decided it is not safe enough and canceled the second day for those residents. ... i know its hard and unbearable but please remember that your life is worth more than your house.

If it is "unsafe" to be there I do understand but there has to be some organization of escorts etc of gutting and boarding. We are being left in the dark of the detailed condition of each street is crazy and which roads may have access. Our homes in Ortley need our attention now, not in a week, not in 6 mos...

Folks in Ortley, wake up. Barring owners by declaring "unsafe" (when it is clearly not all that unsafe...if you've ever driven on a dirt farm road it's no different), well, this is just step 1.

Step 2 = condemning your property in a large block with all the others adjacent to it.

Step 3. = use emminent domain laws to take your "unsafe" property along with all the others. They will find a large developer to bankroll the repairs to roads and bulkheads.

All the Dover Twp beach towns will need to form a proper Home Owners Association immediately to speak as a legal entity to gain access in the short run, then defend property rights from the State taking it in the long run.

Toms River has always treat Ortley Beach residents as their cash cow and second rate citizens. Why would you expect any different now!!

I have a home on Eisenhower, which is bay front and has not been damaged!!! We need to get in and protect our homes!! Not all has been lost in Ortley! We need to act now! We need to unite and fight for our rights as home owners! I know alot of Ortley is unsafe right now, but we need to act fast to protect what is left. Our house is brand new, and they want to condemn everything. THIS IS CRAZY!!!!

Toms River has always treated Ortley Beach as its cash cow. They collect our taxes, astronomical I might add, for there services on the other side of the bridge. Can you say school budget. Everyone needs to stop paying their Toms River taxes now. Mail a certified letter to the town that your tax money will be put in an escrow account. When you are able to view your property and they have it reevaluated. You will forward your tax money.

Our home in Ortley may be our secondary, but does that mean it means less to my family? We have invested tons of money not only in our home, but also in the township. Our heart goes out to those who lived year round in Ortley, but there is obviously no winners in this situation. All we are asking is for the right to examine our property, and safe guard it from what will likely be a long road before we can return. Stop penalizing the people who may not live there all year. What some don't realize is that it takes a lot to have these homes. We do it to give our children memories of days spent at the shore. I agree with the comment about us being used as CASH COWS! It seems to be all they like us for.
