A local's perspective on MTV's Jersey Shore.
With no ordinance on the books, Toms River could simply say "no" to requests for commercial filming in residential neighborhoods. A new ordinance passed last night changes that, installing a permit process, after MTV came requesting a show featuring "Snooki" and "J-Woww" here. Township Administrator Paul Shives said the previous policy didn't keep up with current case law, so Toms River took a look at its policy and drafted an up-to-date ordinance that creates a permit process for those wanting to film in the township for motion pictures, television or other commercial purposes. "The look at …
Spurred by the filming of MTV shows throughout New Jersey in recent years, a bill to be introduced in the state Legislature "explicitly permits" municipalities to have a say in regulating productions.  Dubbed the "Snookiville Law," the bill to be introduced by District 12 Republican Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer would allow towns to license and regulate reality TV shows, like the "Snooki & JWoww" production that began filming in Manchester in August or the previous installments of "Jersey Shore" that filmed in Seaside Heights and Toms River. “The popularity of MTV’s 'Jersey Shore' and other …
MTV stars Snooki and JWoww are filming in a Manchester home, Manchester Business Administrator Elena Zsoldos said Monday. "The fact is that they are here. They're renting a home here in Manchester," Zsoldos said. On Friday, Mayor Michael Fressola told Manchester Patch that he received word from the owner of the filming site, a large, modern two-story home on Johnson Avenue near the POW-MIA Park, that the two "Jersey Shore" cast members were moving in to film their "Snooki & JWoww" spinoff.  Around that time, multiple residents who live on or near the street wrote in to Manchester Patch to say…
Snooki and JWoww won't be filmed hanging out at home -- at least not at the Toms River residence of one of the two women. Township Administrator Paul Shives said the township received a request from 495 Productions, the company behind MTV's "Jersey Shore" and its spinoff, "Snooki & JWoww," seeking to film the new show at a residential location. "The township has an ordinance that prohibits the filming of movies, television shows or commercials in residential areas," Shives said Thursday. "It's a zoning provision." So the township advised 495 Productions that filming at the residential site…
Tonight, the fist-pumping antics of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” will return for its fifth season, which leaves some Toms River natives and officials rolling their eyes. For local businesses the tanned and toned cast frequents while filming, however, the hit show means a surge in profits. “In a time when we're struggling, it brought families back to the shore,” said Tony Rivoli, owner of Rivoli’s Italian and Seafood Restaurant on Fischer Boulevard. He said his establishment has become “the unofficial restaurant of the ‘Jersey Shore’” since it first appeared on the show in season three. “The phone …
All eyes will again be on Seaside Heights and its most famous summer house tenants, when the fifth season of MTV's Jersey Shore will begin to air starting Thursday Jan. 5. Reality television show castmates Vinnie, Snooki, the "Situation," et al will be back on the air after filming around Seaside Heights and Toms River, similar to previous seasons videotaped at the rental house off Ocean Terrace and Kearney, or on the boards and nightclubs of Seaside. The Jersey Shore cast spent the summer in and around Ocean County after filming season four in Italy. When will Jersey Shore season five be …
Turns out, MTV has 30 candles on its not-very-musical cake today. The cable television station, once known for setting the pace by furthering the careers of solo Michael Jackson and showing us what an Aerosmith/Run-DMC duet would look like, has aged at 30 years into a reality television topping channel with few videos in rotation. But while its focus away from music has changed dramatically over the last three decades, MTV's presence in the area has not. Throughout its existence, MTV has set up its cameras on the Jersey Shore. And we're not just talking about the show actually called "Jersey …
MTV’s “Jersey Shore” will return to Seaside Heights for its fifth season. According to AOL TV, the fourth season is about to wrap up production in Florence, Italy, and the network is planning its return to Seaside Heights, where seasons 1 and 3 were set. The network announced the fifth season news in a press release this week: “Fans will get to see more of the show they love, as MTV also announced today that Season Five begins production in June. Going back to the place where a pop culture phenomenon was born, the cast will return to the surf and sand of Seaside Heights, New Jersey for their …
Season three of "Jersey Shore" went out with a whimper Thursday night, with a fittingly lackluster finale. To be honest, this show has really worked my nerves this season. It was all about the Ronnie and Sammi train wreck of a relationship: on-again, off-again, yelling and screaming at each other, breaking things, tears and a few punches. "Never fall in love at the Jersey Shore" Ronnie wishes he stuck to his own advice as the break-up becomes a reality. I really hope it's for good this time.  The next stop for our fist pumpers— Italy! Are they ready for them over there? Who knows! Taping for …
As the third season of "Jersey Shore" begins to draw to an end, the so called "15 minutes of fame" has made some of our favorite fist pumpers rich. As in: RICH! Haters, get ready to hate them even more than you already do. Check this out: Snooki used to be a secretary working for the man every day for a whopping 13 bucks an hour. This year, she's projected to make upwards of $800,000 from the show. That's like 385 bucks per hour, and all she has to do is get drunk and hook up? I want a gig like that.  She "wrote" that awful book, "A Shore Thing" which I read only about two chapters of and had…
This week's episode found the love 'em or hate 'em cast of MTV's Jersey Shore in two states: New Jersey and New York. And lots of emotional states. It was a road trip to Staten Island where Pauly and Vinny join in on one of their epic family feasts. DJ Pauly learns that Staten Island is...actually...an island. Who knew. We know this, because you have to go over a bridge. Yep, that's all it takes. Meanwhile the rest of the house goes GTL leaving the Situation home all alone with the doggies (I guess he doesn't need to workout or tan his hide, and all his clothes are clean? Or maybe he's just …
Jersey Shore fans have been waiting for this weeks' episode where Sammi comes back to the Shore house after her breakup with Ronnie.  As my friends and I watched the episode, we played a drinking game where every time Ronnie cried, we took a shot. Unfortunately we weren't as wasted after last night's episode as we might have been for the previous two. But it was worth a shot, pardon the pun. This week's episode was also insight into what it's like when it rains in the summer. You can't go to the beach so what is there to do? For the cast of the Jersey Shore, it's bowling, empty bars, plumbing…
Meatballs are delicious! And on MTV's "Jersey Shore," that means cast members Deena and Snooki, lovingly dubbed "the meatballs." The two crack me up, and I'm so glad that Deena is a part of this third season of "Jersey Shore," it's really made for a more entertaining train wreck each week.  Tonight the meatballs get themselves pranked by The Situation after sticking marshmallows all over the place, wherever they'll stick: on the walls, the counters, pieces of "art" hung in the house, and then the duck phone.  Well, then Mike  decided that he'd be a "nice guy" and order some cabs for the girls…
In honor and preparation for last night's Jersey Shore episode, my lady friend and I went for some delicious pizza at Vic's in Bradley Beach.  Though I don't think the Jersey Shore cast has discovered this place, YET ... and let's hope they never do.  This gem of an establishment was oozing with Italians and Jersey-Shore types, some of which were buzzing about the show. A table next to us featured a large group of 10 or 11, and there was a teenage gal sitting there and from what I heard, she "couldn't wait till 10"  the question of why came up, and I heard her say, "because Jersey Shore comes…
Spicy, explosive, hot, violent and raging are all very appropriate words one might use to describe last night's Jersey Shore episode. Jwoww and her newest beau Roger venture out to the Spicy Cantina on the Seaside boardwalk, a prominent place midway on the boards. I've been there a handful of times, and love sitting on the balcony upstairs to watch all the folks walkin' around down below. I've been known to toss a few things over the ledge onto some innocent walkers by.  If only I went there more often, I might be as well known as Roger was.  Spicy Cantina seemed to be the place where …
It's Friday morning, so our weekly look at the newest episode of MTV's "Jersey Shore" airing Thursdays nights returns. This week, pardon the pun, a bootylicious Jersey Shore delivers the goods once again for fans of the show. This week's installment of Jersey Shore ventures into local businesses that locals might not freely admit to going: A porn store and the doctor (unrelated incidents). But first, the gang heads out to Karma (of course) to get hooched up on their favorite libations (of course) while they bump and grind. Snooki finds herself a "typical Seaside guido," and after a night of …
All of this crazy, never-ending snow this winter has really made me wish that I could just transport myself into last night's episode of 'Jersey Shore,' shot last summer on the beaches and boards of Seaside Heights, following around the hard-partying cast as they jump in and out of bars, their hot tub, and exploits.  It was a rather serious dose of of reality last night for episode four.  On the heels of Jenni's breakup with Tom in last weeks' episode, she had to go rescue her two doggies after being locked in a house for two days with no food, no water, no nothing.  Nice move by Tom, and yet…
Lucky week for all Jersey Shore fans out there, and very unlucky for folks who hope to avoid it like the plague. We got a double dose of our favorite fornicating foul-mouthed fist pumpers as MTV aired a bonus episode on Monday (likely to get viewers to watch this new show Skins) as well as its regularly scheduled Thursday episode.  Oh boy! Then a surprise episode of Jersey Shore Afterhours featuring the "Tripod" Jwoww, Snooki, and Deena was almost enough to OD on. This week the focus was mainly on those three girls, with some sprinkles of funny antics from the boys.  Locals will notice the …
A few months back, I heard that Snooki was writing a book and snickered at the thought of it. What on earth could it be about? Would it be a bodice ripper of pulp fiction or a tale of social strata of Bronte proportions? Well, you'll have to get your hands on your own juicy copy of her first novel "A Shore Thing" and read for yourself.  I've only had a chance to skim it so far, but the gist is basically a mirror image of her experiences that we've already seen on season 1 of Jersey Shore though the names were changed to protect the not-so-innocent.  Gia, the main character, seems to be quite …
A new year here on the Jersey Shore was kicked off with a new season of "Jersey Shore" last night. But before last night's episode, there was New Year's Eve with Snooki... Originally MTV wanted to drop Snooki from a ball in Times Square, but no dice!  Instead the Plan B brought the event down to the Jersey Shore house in Seaside Heights. Again, this was a much more appropriate decision, seeing that Times Square is not part of the Jersey shoreline in any way. And when I heard about this event, I grabbed my trusty friend Kyle (who is obsessed with Snooki) and we headed over to see our favorite …
