Overnight Garden State Parkway construction is expected to cause detours on Route 571 next week. Improvements to the Parkway bridge which passes over the county route, also known as Indian Head Road, will be made from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, Feb. 25 through Friday, March 1, according to the township. "The overnight construction was scheduled to minimize the impact on motorists," reads an advisory message issued by the township. "Motorists should follow the clearly marked detour signs and preferably avoid the area due to delays."

Route 9 lane closures begin tonight for parkway deck repairs under mile 83. The bridge deck repairs over Routes 9 and 166 for Garden State Parkway mile 83 will shutter portions of the highway overnight starting Oct. 17. The lane closures are expected to continue through Oct. 26, according to the state Department of Transportation. Construction crews will close lanes of Route 9 and 166 in Toms River starting at 9 p.m. tonight. Both north and southbound traffic underneath the overpasses that make up Exit 83 will be affected. A main thorofare for Ocean County College and shortcut between Church and Hooper avenues reopened after about two weeks of construction. Buckwald Drive, closed for electrical repairs, had for most of October seen both lanes closed for the project. College Drive was the only entrance to Ocean County College while Buckwald was shuttered. Through Oct. 5, both lanes of the north-south road were closed, creating reported backups and heavy volume along Hooper Avenue between College Drive and Yorktowne…

Travelers to Ocean County College and H. George Buckwald Drive will find detours in place starting Sept. 24, as lane and road closures will begin for a new electrical service to the campus, officials said. Starting Monday, Sept. 24 and ending Friday, Oct. 5 both lanes of Buckwald Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for new electric service to the campus. Another afternoon storm heaped more rain atop yesterday's reported eight inches of rainfall, again flooding roadways in Toms River. Traffic continues to be slow around low-lying areas. A major proposal to extend Western Boulevard could impact Toms River Schools, school officials said. The Toms River Regional Schools district has been meeting with project planners to see just how the extension of the roadway would affect Beachwood Elementary and Toms River Intermediate South. The Beachwood Elementary school in particular is close enough to the project that it required the county to notify the school district. Heavy volume continues to clog west and eastbound lanes of Route 37, as travelers head from the Garden State Parkway entrance toward the Mathis bridge. Forty-five-minute bridge traffic delays were reported on both sides of the highway as of 4 p.m. The heaviest volume is ongoing at Route 166, Hooper Avenue and Route 35 intersections on Route 37 eastbound. However an accident on Route 37 in the Berkeley Township section of Pelican Island is also slowing traffic. Traffic has slowed in Toms River along Route 37 due to a high volume of eastbound traffic. From King Street to Hooper Avenue, traffic is backed up on the state road. Expect delays heading east toward the bridge. • The traffic light at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Cedar Grove Road is malfunctioning as of 12:30 p.m. The traffic light is flashing red for traffic on Clifton and flashing yellow for Cedar Grove Road. • Utility crews are working in the center of Indian Hill Road, between Shawnee Drive and Heritage Way. A traffic signal up at Old Freehold Road and Intermediate West Way is scheduled to be activated today. The new traffic pattern is part of county road improvements relating to the Exit 83 parkway interchange. Old Freehold Road, a county road, gained the traffic light which will regulate traffic through the intersection with Intermediate North Way. Now Intermediate Way has traffic signals on each end, with the first going up at the main entrance to the Route 571 intersection with the new parkway connector road.
