The Ocean County Roads Deparment announced the work of the major Toms River thorofare, which is also County Route 549, will begin around Monday, June 11. The project includes milling and paving of the roadway, along the area of Oak Avenue by the Ocean County Mall. Detours will be in effect Friday night when a portion of Route 37 at the Lakehurst Circle is closed. The state highway will be closed between about 8 and 9:30 p.m. near Brown Avenue.  Detours will be in place for motorists heading in both directions. Westbound traffic on Route 37 is expected to be diverted to Colonial Drive, where motorists can then take Route 70 west and bypass the closure. Eastbound traffic can take Route 70 to Colonial Drive and rejoin Route 37. Authorities had originally planned to close the section on Monday night, but weather concerns have forced the change to Friday. …
The red light violation cameras at the intersection of Route 70 and Brick Boulevard are now live. The cameras activated 12 a.m. Monday. The photo enforcement cameras will capture still and video images of red light running violations, however, for an initial 30-day warning period, a warning notice will be issued to the vehicle’s registered owner rather than a binding violation notice. The warning period ends on Wednesday, June 6, at which time summonses will begin to be issued, Brick Police Capt. John Rein said. Like Brick's other two intersections equipped with the red light cameras – Route …
Cameras and flash poles installed at the intersection of Route 70 and Brick Boulevard denote the coming of new red light cameras, which officials said are scheduled to start snapping pictures the end of the month. The new cameras will target motorists who run the red light at the busy intersection where the two major roads come together. The cameras were approved in September. But despite the fact that they've been installed, don't expect to be receiving any tickets in the mail just yet. The cameras, owned by American Traffic Solutions of Arizona, are currently in a testing phase, according …

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said one of the vehicle's occupants complained of knee pain but the injuries were minor. Buckwald Drive was closed for approximately an hour, sending Ocean County College traffic to use the College Drive entrance off Hooper instead of the Church Road access. At 3:30 p.m., the accident was cleared and the road had been reopened, Mastronardy said. Lane Closure for Tree Cutting Crews on Oak Avenue:  Oak …

For motorists on the road this Friday evening, the traffic looks to be considerably worse on the west side of the state, while the Monmouth and Ocean county areas have not hit their peak as of 4:30 p.m.. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting only one problem on the Garden State Parkway so far. Heading south near exit 114 in Holmdel, there is a four mile delay stretching all the way to exit 109 in Middletown.  There is also a report of volume on Route 138 west near the cut for Route 18 in Wall that is starting to build this evening. For as busy as the commute was on both the local roads and highways in the area on Friday night, the traffic appears that much lighter on Sunday night. Labor Day is just a few weeks away, but there are still plenty of people making their way down to the Jersey Shore on Friday evening as the summer winds down. In the immediate area the New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting heavy volume on Route 138 west as well as Route 18 in Wall Township which is slowing traffic for motorists. With temperatures crossing into triple digits all through the area today this should be a busy weekend on the Jersey Shore. However, as of 7:40 Friday night, there is very little traffic to report on the local roadways. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority reports that there are very few problems on both the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, except for at the Hudson River Crossings. In Berkeley Township, a downed pole and downed wires is making for difficult driving conditions on Route 9. On the northbound side between Korman Road and Ocean Gate Drive all lanes are closed which is making …

It has undoubtedly been a busy day on the roads this Fourth of July, but as the last fireworks are fired off, those visitors to the area on their way home for a shortened week of work are doing so in a way that is not making too many headaches for those that live here.  The current peace and quiet of the roads is a long way from the start of the day when a fatal accident on the Parkway brought traffic to a halt for an extended period of time. As of 8 p.m. on Monday night the only traffic issue reported in the area was on Route 35 near Seaside Heights. The crash occurred south of Route 37 and …
