Kimball Medical Center Calls for Volunteers

Kimball Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, is seeking caring individuals interested in contributing their time, talent and energy as volunteer members of the hospital’s dedicated healthcare team.

“When you volunteer at Kimball, you become an integral part of a hospital that is committed to delivering the highest quality health care to our community,” said Donna Salin, director of Volunteer Services at Kimball. “Our volunteers are committed to improving the lives of our patients, their families and visitors.”

Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:  Emergency Department; patient contact; hospitality visitation/patient comfort and companionship; recreational activities; courtesy shuttle transport; pet therapy; music therapy; dietary services; patient transportation; and knitting/crocheting/sewing from home. In addition, volunteers can also fill positions at one of the hospital’s three thrift shops in Lakewood, Jackson and Lakehurst – the proceeds of which benefit the Kimball Medical Center Foundation to support the hospital’s initiatives.

According to Salin, studies show that volunteering is good for mental and physical health – for both volunteers and the people they are helping. “Most volunteers find deep fulfillment in helping to care for those who must spend time in a hospital,” said Salin. “Their warmth and caring has a great impact on countless sick and lonely patients.”

Each volunteer assignment is specially tailored to match the needs of the hospital with the schedule, abilities and interests of the volunteer. Kimball provides a comprehensive orientation and volunteer training program, as well as flexible hours, rewarding experiences, the opportunity to develop new friendships and the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others. Volunteers are required to serve a minimum of one four-hour shift per week.
