Beach Guide: Ortley Beach

There's the municipal beach but also the Surf Club

Trying to choose which beach to head to? Compared to its neighbor to the south, Ortley Beach is a quiet, peaceful town for taking in the fresh air. At the center of the boardwalk, you’ll find Joey Harrison’s Surf Club, a privately owned beach with live entertainment, food, and drinks.

Seasonal passes to Ortley Beach are $35. The price increases to $50 on May 31.

Toms River township residents age 62 and older are entitled to a lifetime senior beach pass for free.

Seasonal and senior passes can be purchased now at the Toms River Recreation Administration Building (1810 Warren Point Rd.) or the Toms River Senior Center (652 Garfield Ave.) Both are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

During the summer, season passes may also be purchased at 4th Avenue Lifeguard Headquarters. Daily badges cost $7 and $8 on the weekends, and are available at beach entrances. Children under 12 are free.

Ortley Beach opens on Memorial Day weekend. Lifeguards are on duty weekends only until June 24. From June 25 through Labor Day, lifeguards are on duty daily. Lifeguard hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Surfing is permitted only on 2nd Ave.

Public restrooms are located on the boardwalk at the end of Fielder Ave and at the Lifeguard Station at 4th and Ocean Ave. These locations also offer handicap entrances to the beach front.

Free street parking is available year round.

Seasonal ($75) and daily ($7) badges are available on site at Surf Club Beach.  Surf Club offers a food court, bar, on the beach wait staff service, showers, and restrooms.  Lifeguards at Surf Club are on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The entrance to the beach is on Ocean Ave., just south of 6th Ave. For Surf Club Beach questions, call (732) 830-8000.
