Brown's Woods Clean-up Scheduled for April 16

Volunteers needed for property off Washington Street

Brown’s Woods, that 14-acre stretch of riverfront at Washington Street and Whittier Avenue in Toms River, will be the focus of a pre-Earth Day cleanup sponsored by the Barnegat Bay Partnership.

Neighbors, Toms River Township workers and volunteers will help clean up the waterfront, trails and woods that were acquired by Dover Township with the help of the state’s Green Acres program. The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon April 16, rain or shine.

The Long Swamp Stream runs through the property before emptying into Haines Cove on the Toms River.

Shellfish Restoration Program is April 26

An open house is planned by the Barnegat Bay Shellfish Restoration/ Master Shellfish Gardner Training Program at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Ocean County Agricultural Building at 1632 Whitesville Road in Toms River, according to Mary Judge of the Partnership.

Information about the training courts, activities of ReClam the Bay, information from the state Bureau of Shellfisheries, and ecology and water quality monitoring will be provided.

Classes meet from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday through June.
