Ellen Helps Another Local Family

TV star gives a new car to flooded Point Boro family

The Ellen DeGeneres Show just donated a new Chrysler convertible to a Point Borough family whose home and cars were flooded by Superstorm Sandy.

Scott, Kathy, Megan and Madison Emery, who live on Christine Court, cannot live in their home yet because it was so severely flooded.

Kathy Emery, a hairdresser, wrote to the Ellen show about how her family's home and two cars were flooded.

She said in her letter that the worst thing was  watching her daughters struggle in vain to grab photos and yearbooks before having to flee their home. Megan and Madison told Ellen that they were unable to snatch any of those personal momentos.

The family has been paying a mortgage on their flooded home while paying rent for two cars and rent on a house they are living in temporarily.

Movie Star Gerard Butler drove the new car onto the Ellen set, much to the delight of the Emerys.

Click here to see the segment featuring the Emery family on the Ellen set in Burbank, CA, or tune in today at 4 p.m. on NBC.

If you had any flooding or any other damage during Sandy and you need help, there are numerous organizations, churches and volunteers who can help.

For example, in Point Borough, Marcie Bradley, the School Social Worker at Memorial Middle School, has names of numerous volunteers eager to adopt families affected by the storm. But so far very few residents have asked for help.

Bradley said any Borough residents who are needy, even those who do not have children in the local public school district, and even those who are needy for reasons unrelated to the storm, should call her so she can match them with families who want to help.

For more information, contact Bradley at (732) 701-1900 ext. 2314.

For help cleaning out houses, contact The Durand Masonic Temple, 911 Richmond Ave. (Route 35) and the corner of New Jersey Avenue, Point Beach, (732) 245-7187.
