Ready for Recreation: Girls Softball Complex Complete

Photo gallery of the finished facility

Though its formal dedication is June 16 at 2 p.m., the girls softball complex on North Bay Avenue has already been in use.

The facility's playground and walking/biking trails have been in use for more than a month, Director of Recreation Eric Schubiger said previously. Last weekend, the complex also hosted a tournament though before that local families and youth have been playing around on the fields informally.

Here's our gallery of the facility's multiple softball fields, parking lot and passive recreation.

looks beautiful !!! lots of space for people who are foreclosed because they cant afford the property taxes to put up tents.....very nice of the council to think of the ex-homeowners

This is a wonderful complex and it's situated right across the street from a wonderful church: Trinity Fellowship Church! Trinityfel.org

Is the twp. discriminating against boys and men who want to play softball, or can they also use the luxurious new fields that taxpayers are so generously providing?
teatleytea June 15, 2012 at 11:12 PM
Where is the story about the softball team from LINDEN who held a tournament at this complex even unbeknownst to the township officials. And here is the kicker they even used the concession stand, without a certificate from the Board of Health. What would happen if a local restaurant had tried to pull this one off? But, after all it is FOR THE CHILDREN and not even the children from Toms River!

yes, beautiful walking trails, and bathrooms included in the park. But during the week, during the day, when NO ONE is using these trails, school buses cannot park there, if they have 30 mins between a run, and walk along the path. go figure. many drivers put in 10.5 hours a day, getting paid for 8, with no complaint, it's the nature of the job. we saw the walking paths, and were thrilled. but alas, persona non grata, even tho no one uses the fields during the day, during the week.

With all of the burglaries, break ins and attempted break ins yesterday (Friday) in Toms River...this is still the main story? We need real news!
Martin June 16, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Does that mean when no one is there during the week on school days, a local senior softball league can't use the ballfields? It sounds like a private country club for a select few girls, many of them from out of town. The township has no control over this taxpayer-paid boondoggle.

Patch, please ask the questions brought up in these comments when you see the rec director. The people of TR deserve answers.
George June 16, 2012 at 11:41 AM
The mayor called Patch to publicize the grandiose speech he'll make this afternoon about his latest pet project. Maybe it will take your mind off the Friday night crime spree and his under-funding of the police dept.

nice place, give it time, and it will become a land mine field for geese and dog walkers who don't pick up after their animals. Its such a shame, but truth hurts. And, at least the Mayor has to show up for a day of work today. there is an effort to beep when driving by while he's blubbering (speaking) today....

7.5 million divided by 300 girls = $25,000 each, or is that 25k a vote, or is that bias and discrimination and taxpayer abuse. Now add maintenance costs and that equals ______________? Add violations of health inspections and who knows what else (only they know) Now add a new parks and recs director ( see twsp employment opportunities) and now you can add nepotism to this equation!...and your final answer is?

Finally! A place for girls to play softball! I played softball for 13 years on crappy, make shift fields. We never had fields like the BOYS little league complexes- one on Windsor Ave. and one on Mapletree Ave., both partly/mostly funded by taxpayers. The girl's softball league of TR has been around for a long time and it's about time they have nice fields and a decent complex to play in. Thank You taxpayers (myself included..) I'm proud to support girl's softball!

Why do you hear so many negative remarks about a beautiful complex that all can use in some way. Instead of wasting the energy to make these remarks go walk the trails or take your children or grandchildren to the play area. Geez really turn the negative into something positive.
Brian Fitzpatrick June 16, 2012 at 03:29 PM
Folks on this board are unbelievable. Grinches of the highest caliber not seen in very many places. The girls of this township have been second-class athletic citizens for a long, long time, (while the boys have TWO separate complexes for their exclusive use) and for the first time, they have a place of their own to play...and the vast majority of people making comments here have only negative comments, many of which have nothing to do with girls softball. Grow up, people, and pick on somebody or something else. These girls deserve this.

Beautiful waste of my tax dollars. With how high my property taxes are something like this should have never even been considered being built. Why when the mayor decides to build this he does not have to put it to a vote of the taxpayers? Now we have to pay for the upkeep of this as well. Tired of my taxes being wasted like this.
Tracy June 16, 2012 at 05:52 PM
I love the new fields but come on there are more important stuff going on in the town like break ins then the fields... that news should be front n center not this
. June 16, 2012 at 08:15 PM
I couldn't care less about the mayor or his field. I am concerned for the safety of our homes with all of these break ins. One speech couldn't take my mind off of that!!
Ken June 16, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Yes thank the taxpayer for having to shell out even more money. This has to stop somewhere already.
Robert Bressman June 17, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Sorry you're wrong on this, TRELL fields are taken care of by the by the League coaches, garbage pick up, grass cutting, lawn maintenance, fix or repair sprinklers system daily, fix the holes in the playing fields, poor drainage, when it rains it takes 3 days before it is playable on, surveillance, uniforms. TRELL wins the Little League World Series and is the least helped League there is. Those fields are a safety hazard and it's been that way for the last 15 years. If I were on the league board, I'd tell the town, I'm dissolving the League, that would definitely be egg on their faces. TRELL's fields are no better than the fields the Girls Softball played on before they built this complex, I complained about those fields too. to be fair if you think you played on crappy fields for 13 years, do yourself a favor, before you talk about how great the boys fields are take a ride over to TRELL and then tell me how great that field is.
No name June 17, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Bottom line ken is a moron
No name June 17, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Its obvious ken can't play sports and never has stop crying like a three year old . If you don't like it move !!!!
Ken June 17, 2012 at 04:19 PM
I have played sports so have my children, but I do not expect the town to cater to every group by building a different park or complex for every single sport. Nor did I expect them to build special complexes for each sport we play. Why should I be the one to move, I have lived here all my life. You are probably the one who moved here from up north. Let me guess as a child your sport was racing cockroaches. Problem with people like you are you are part of the group that wants everything handed to them. Well I am tired of having my taxes going up because of you. Your precious little snowflake did not need a complex like this to play softball.
Rem June 18, 2012 at 01:09 AM
The park if it absolutely needed to built should have been for all aspects of softball male and female. And it is not fair to the veterans or the taxpayers to name it what they did.
