Hurricane Irene? No Big Deal for This Weekend's Events

Concerts and movies are still on (as of now)

What do you do when a hurricane is coming your way? Perhaps, after you've secured all your belongings and bought lots of bottled water, you try to stay calm. And what’s a better way to stay calm than attending great events that are still scheduled for you? Here are this weekend’s events, and we've the weather won't impact them.

This weekend is your . On Friday, the Toms River Municipal Band and the Lakewood Jazz Ensemble performs. Both concerts are held at the . To find out about cancellations or potential reschedules, please call 732-349-6200. 

Seaside Heights will continue its free Movies on the Beach events. Thursday, the movie will be National Treasure with musical entertainment by Steve Lightning. Friday, the Rocky Horror Picture Show will be played, and on Sunday, Ferris Bueller's Day Off with musical entertainment by Steve Lightning will be airing. All moviegoers will be seated on the beach at the Hiering Avenue at dusk. In case of the weather or cancellation, call 800-732-7467.

In case you stay in your house, here are some things to do to ensure you enjoy Hurricane Irene.

Movies – Watch these movies that all have a hurricane or a tropical storm in them.

  • The Day After Tomorrow – A massive hurricane was forming to hit the pacific. Although, it never hit the coast, it was called the strongest hurricane on record.
  • Forrest Gump – In this comedy, Forrest Gump and Lt. Dan ride out a strong tropical storm on Gump’s shrimp boat.

Be Creative – Have a hurricane party. This can be anything you make of it. If the power goes out, be sure to dust off the old board games like Monopoly (sure to last hours) or any other classics.  If you’re the adventurous type, create your own slip and slide and enjoy the wet lawn outside in the days after.

However you choose to spend your time during Hurricane Irene, be sure to and enjoy the week that was of Earthquakes and Hurricanes.
