Seal With Fish Hook in Nose Rescued from Island Beach State Park

Seal had previously been treated in New York, according to a tag

Staff at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center rescued a seal from a painful situation at Island Beach State Park on Thursday night.

According to a statement from the center, the staff received a call from park rangers telling them there was a seal on the beach with a fish hook stuck in its nose.

"Our staff went to the scene and were able to remove the hook and set the animal free," the statement said.

It wasn't the grey seal's first hard luck story, apparently. When stranding center volunteers found her, she had a tag indicating she was a recent patient at Riverhead Foundation in New York, another organization that rescues marine mammals.

"We guess she just got a little too close to a fish on a line," the statement said.

A photo of the injured seal was not distributed.
